Job Summary
This is a full-time, term chemistry faculty appointment reporting to the Natural Sciences Department Head for the academic year. The faculty member is responsible for the preparation and delivery of learning outcome-aligned content, the evaluation of student performance, and related activities. At a minimum, the related activities include curriculum development, weekly office hours, academic advising, annual committee service, annual professional development and participation in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend at any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus or program location, as assigned.

Job Duties
- Prepare and deliver lectures and laboratory instruction to students on topics in introductory chemistry, general chemistry, or organic chemistry.
- Fairly and consistently evaluate student performance in laboratory activities, problem-solving assignments, timed assessments, and writing assignments.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
- Provide routine and mandatory updates on grades by utilizing Southwest’s learning management system and grade reporting system, as required by law.
- Comply with Southwest’s learning management system minimum use policy.
- Report attendance utilizing the Southwest attendance reporting system, as required by law.
- Post and maintain ten (10) weekly office hours for students seeking advice on careers, academic pathways, or course work.
- Participate in departmental and college committees and provide outreach service to the community by serving in related organizations or committees.
- Attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the president, dean, or department head.
- Participate in organized professional development annually and remain up to date on developments in the academic field by reading current literature, participating in collegial collaborations, participating in professional conferences or activities, or pursuing additional academic achievements.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the department head or division dean.
- Master's degree with a major in chemistry from an accredited institution or a master's degree and eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in chemistry.
- Southwest accepts only coursework completed at an institution accredited and listed in the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs or a recognized international credential evaluator.
- Resume (or CV), statement of accomplishments, and official college transcripts. (Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the application. A candidate advanced for hire must submit official transcripts prior to hiring.)
- Pass a background check if advanced for hire.
- Ability to deliver learning outcome-aligned college-level instruction.
- Ability to convey complex concepts to a student population with varied learning experiences.
- Ability to communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written forms.
- Ability to adapt content and instructional pedagogy for an ever-growing student population.
- Skill in selecting and using training or instructional methods appropriate for the course material.
- Ability to use smart classroom technology including artificial intelligence for classroom and laboratory instruction.
- Ability to engage students through learning management systems through conventional, hybrid and online course delivery methods.
- Knowledge of computers and specialized office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat).
