The Executive Director of MDDP guides strategy, inspires collaboration, and ensures the longterm sustainability of our mission: to make downtown Muncie a thriving place for all. From energizing public spaces to supporting local entrepreneurs, your work will ripple across the community.

What You will Do:

• Lead with Vision – Support the Board of Directors to set and drive the strategic direction for MDDP and champion initiatives that elevate downtown Muncie’s vitality.

• Build Community – Foster strong relationships with local businesses, city leaders, artists, and residents to create a shared sense of purpose.

• Drive Impact – Oversee daily operations, manage budgets, and ensure organizational health and growth.

• Tell the Story – Be the public face of MDDP, sharing our mission and momentum with stakeholders, media, and the broader community.

• Empower the Team – Support and guide staff and volunteers in executing programs, events, and partnerships that bring downtown to life.



Key Responsibilities:


Fundraising & Development

• Lead fundraising strategies, including donor cultivation, grant writing, sponsorships, and special events.

• Build relationships with funders, community partners, and stakeholders.

• Ensure sustainable funding streams to support programming and operations.


Leadership & Strategic Planning

• Provide visionary leadership and develop strategic plans in collaboration with the Board.

• Implement policies and initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.

• Foster a culture of transparency, inclusiveness, collaboration, and accountability.


Community Engagement & Advocacy

• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization.

• Build and maintain partnerships with community leaders, nonprofits, government agencies, and other stakeholders.


Financial Oversight

• Develop and manage the annual budget. Provides regular financial updates and performance to budget regularly to Board of Directors.

• Oversee financial planning, reporting, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

• Ensure sound fiscal management and accountability.


Program & Operations Management

• Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services.

• Supervise staff, volunteers, and contractors; foster professional development.


Board Relations

• Reports directly to the Board of Directors.

• Support board development, including recruitment, orientation, and ongoing engagement.

• Provide regular updates, reports, and recommendations to the Board.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred (nonprofit management, public administration, business, or related field).

• 5+ years of leadership experience in the nonprofit sector or equivalent.

• Proven experience in fundraising, financial oversight, and organizational management.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.

• Ability to think strategically and drive operational excellence.

• Passion for the mission of MDDP.

• Current residency in Delaware County or relocation to Delaware County will be required within 6 months of date of hire. Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience.

• Benefits: Annually, 15 days paid time off, 5 paid sick days (unused sick days can roll over annually up to a maximum of 20 days), and 8 paid holidays. Along with professional development.
