Core Technical Skills
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Administration
- Installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of RHEL systems.
- Package management, service management, and system tuning.
- SELinux, firewall, and system security configurations.
- Kickstart Deployment
- Creating, customizing, and troubleshooting Kickstart files for automated OS installation.
- PXE boot and network-based deployment orchestration for large server fleets.
- Dell Server Management
- Installation and configuration of Dell PowerEdge servers.
- Hardware monitoring and management using Dell OpenManage, iDRAC, and Lifecycle Controller.
- RAID setup, firmware/driver updates, and diagnostics.
- EMC Storage Administration
- Provisioning and managing storage (LUNs, pools) on EMC arrays (VNX, Unity, PowerMax, etc.).
- Integration of storage with Linux hosts and troubleshooting connectivity/performance issues.
- Use of EMC management software for monitoring and reporting.
- SAN Fiber Channel Administration
- Configuration and maintenance of SAN environments using Fiber Channel protocols.
- Zoning and masking on Fiber Channel switches (Brocade, Cisco, etc.).
- Host bus adapter (HBA) configuration and driver/firmware management on Linux servers.
- Multipath configuration and troubleshooting using tools like multipathd and lsscsi.
- Monitoring SAN health, performance, and resolving connectivity issues.
- Collaboration with storage and network teams on SAN design, expansion, and incident response.
- General Linux System Administration
- User/group management, permissions, and access controls.
- Filesystem management (ext4, XFS, LVM, NFS, SMB).
- Scripting (Bash, Python, Perl) for automation.
- System monitoring and troubleshooting (top, sar, vmstat, iostat, etc.).
- System hardening (CIS/Red Hat benchmarks), disabling unused services, secure SSH configuration.
- Patch management and centralized update deployment.
- Strong user access and privilege management.
- Host-based firewall configuration and network segmentation.
- Regular backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Audit, compliance, and log review.
- Analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Documentation of procedures and environments.
- Effective cross-team communication.
- Prioritization, time management, and adaptability.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- Dell EMC Proven Professional
- Brocade or Cisco SAN certification (optional but valuable for Fiber Channel focus)
- Deploy Linux servers via Kickstart, integrating with SAN storage over Fiber Channel.
- Manage Dell server hardware and EMC storage, including LUN provisioning and multipathing.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain Fiber Channel SAN zones and HBAs for optimal connectivity.
- Implement and maintain security best practices across the server and storage infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, OS, and SAN-related issues.
- Maintain thorough documentation of SAN topologies, server builds, and operational procedures.
