Director of Emerging Technologies

WCF Insurance Information Technology (IT) department has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as a Director of Emerging Technologies. This position is an exempt role reporting to the Senior Vice President (CIO). is responsible for supporting the identification, evaluation, and implementation of emerging technologies-such as advanced AI-to strengthen our competitiveness in commercial P&C insurance. Key duties include collaborating with interdepartmental peers and leadership to understand long term business objectives and then identifying and executing initiatives to support them. Additionally, the role will develop and support training programs to upskill staff on emerging technologies such as AI.

The person in this position will work in our Sandy, Utah location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in technology, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
• At least 8 years of work experience with 3-5 years of tech leadership; preferably in insurance or financial services.
• Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and success with emerging technologies.
• Familiarity with AI, machine learning, and data analytics applications.
• Experience with cloud platforms, data architecture, and digital transformation.
• Familiarity with technology governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management frameworks.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with a focus on aligning tech solutions to business needs.
• Experience managing cross-functional teams and vendor relationships.
  
  

Essential Job Functions

• Provide leadership in the execution of enterprise-wide innovation and emerging technology initiatives, in alignment with the organization's long-term vision and under the strategic direction of the CIO.
• Development of robust business cases for suitable emerging technologies, including cost-benefit analysis (ROI), risk assessment, financial responsibility, and alignment with organizational priorities.
• Maintain current knowledge of advancements in insurance technologies, assessing their relevance for WCF.
• Collaborate with teams in and out of IT to implement AI and emerging tech solutions.
• Support the AI and emerging technology governance program, managing risk and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with business units to identify opportunities for technology-driven improvements.

Benefits

WCF Insurance offers an extensive compensation package. Benefits include Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, company paid life insurance, 401K with a generous 6% employer match and additional benefits such as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and time off to volunteer in the local community. All employees earn 4 weeks of vacation in their first year. Expected salary for this position is $160,905 – $189,300 depending on experience, education, and location.

Internal candidates should have acceptable job performance, 6 months in their current position, and must notify their current supervisor that they have applied for the position.
