The Workforce Navigator plays a critical role in St. John’s Community Health’s Reentry Program by supporting justice-involved individuals in overcoming barriers to employment and advancing toward sustainable career and educational opportunities. This position provides direct workforce development services, facilitates connections to legal services, builds and maintains partnerships with reentry-friendly employers, and leads workshops, job fairs, and advocacy efforts that expand access to meaningful employment for individuals returning to the community.
In addition to direct service delivery, the Workforce Navigator supports program development and compliance by collecting, analyzing, and reporting workforce data to ensure deliverables are met and funder expectations are satisfied. This includes maintaining accurate, audit-ready documentation, tracking participant progress, and contributing to grant reporting requirements.
The Workforce Navigator works closely with the Director of RISE, reentry staff, case managers, and outreach teams to ensure program objectives are achieved and participants receive equitable, culturally responsive, and client-centered workforce solutions in South Los Angeles.

Education : (Preferred)
- High school diploma or GED required, bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
- Two years’ related experience within human services and/or public health.
- Two years’ experience conducting community and/or street outreach, specifically to hard-to-reach populations.
- Must have experience working with diverse and incarcerated populations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent word processing skills with MS Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Outlook.
- Excellent management and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a time-sensitive environment.
- Demonstrate ability to anticipate needs and solve problems, prioritize conflicting demands,
- Follow-up on tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Workforce Readiness & Skill-Building
- Develop and facilitate engaging workshops for justice-involved individuals on topics such as smartphone use, basic computer navigation, resume development, mock interviews, professional dress, workplace culture, and maintaining employment.
- Deliver training on appropriate use of social media in professional contexts and its impact on employability.
- Strengthen participants’ confidence in technology use to support their career development and job search success.
- Individualized Career Planning
- Collaborate with participants to develop individualized workforce or care plans tailored to employment and career goals.
- Conduct assessments to identify strengths, barriers, and training needs, and design steps to achieve both short-term and long-term employment outcomes.
- Regularly update workforce plans in alignment with participant progress and evolving opportunities.
- Job Search & Application Support
- Provide hands-on assistance with online and in-person job searches, including completing applications, preparing supporting documents, and practicing email etiquette.
- Guide participants in creating and maintaining online employment profiles (e.g., Indeed, LinkedIn, or other industry-specific platforms).
- Offer coaching on effective job-seeking strategies and employer engagement.
- Instructional Planning & Delivery
- Plan, design, and deliver course content using instructional materials, concepts, and learning activities tailored to the needs of adult learners.
- Adjust instructional approaches to support different learning styles, literacy levels, and technology experience.
- Evaluate participant progress and adapt content to ensure skill development and confidence-building.
- Career Development Support
- Empower participants to develop soft skills and workforce competencies needed for long-term success.
- Provide guidance on workplace expectations, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Support participants in navigating reentry-related challenges that impact employability, connecting them to additional resources as needed.
- Facilitate connections to legal services—including expungement support, family reunification, housing evictions immigration status, and employment rights resources—to help participants overcome justice-related barriers that impact their career opportunities.
