About Ascension St. John Sportsplex

Ascension St. John Sportsplex is Tulsa’s premier multi-sport and event destination featuring 8 hard courts, 2 indoor turf fields, and 10 outdoor grass soccer fields. As the official training complex for FC Tulsa, the Sportsplex is a year-round hub for youth and adult sports, tournaments, and community programs. We are dedicated to operational excellence, professional presentation, and creating first-class experiences for athletes, spectators, and partners.

Position Summary

The Sports Facilities Director provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all facility operations, groundskeeping, maintenance, and project execution across the Sportsplex campus. This position ensures the complex remains safe, well-maintained, and event-ready at all times while managing staff, vendors, and capital improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate has a proven background in facility operations, sports turf and grounds management, and maintenance project coordination, with strong leadership and organizational skills.

Primary Responsibilities

Facility & Grounds Management

  • Oversee the care, preparation, and maintenance of all outdoor fields, indoor turf, and hard court facilities.
  • Implement and monitor maintenance schedules for playing surfaces, irrigation systems, lighting, and building infrastructure.
  • Manage weather-related field recovery and readiness procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and facility standards for athletic and public use.

Maintenance, Repairs & Projects

  • Lead all preventive and corrective maintenance efforts for buildings, fields, and equipment.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee small- to mid-scale capital projects, renovations, and facility upgrades.
  • Manage work orders, project timelines, and documentation to ensure quality and cost control.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and long-term infrastructure sustainability.

Staff & Contractor Management

  • Recruit, train, and supervise facility and groundskeeping staff, ensuring performance and accountability.
  • Develop staff schedules and workload assignments based on seasonal needs and event calendars.
  • Manage contractor and vendor relationships for landscaping, maintenance, custodial, and specialty services.
  • Negotiate service contracts and ensure adherence to performance standards and budget expectations.

Qualifications

  • 6-9 years of progressive experience in facility operations, groundskeeping, or sports complex management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in field and turf maintenance, facility repairs, and project oversight.
  • Proven experience managing full-time and part-time staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and irrigation systems preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, work order systems, and facility management software.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and event schedules as required.
