Position Summary
Are you passionate about fostering global education and cultural exchange? Join our dynamic team as a Study Abroad Coordinator! In this role, you will play a crucial part in guiding students through enriching international experiences, from selecting the perfect program to returning home with new perspectives. Your work will enhance our students’ academic and personal growth. Key Responsibilities: Advising and Counseling: Conduct sessions to inform students about diverse study-abroad opportunities. Advise students on selecting the most suitable study abroad programs, ensuring alignment with their academic and career goals. Assist students with registration, course approval, and academic transfer credit requirements. Program Administration: Manage the entire study abroad application process. Administer both outgoing and incoming student exchange programs. Collaborate with campus offices such as the registrar, financial aid, admissions, and residence life to address study abroad-related issues. Promotion and Outreach: Promote education abroad programs through information sessions and effective publicity. Develop and maintain informational materials, including the study abroad handbook, brochures, and handouts. Coordinate study abroad fairs, international education week, and campus visits by program representatives. Student Preparation and Support: Prepare students for their international experience with comprehensive pre-departure orientations. Assist students with re-entry into the home campus environment, ensuring a smooth transition. Provide ongoing support and advisement to international exchange students and scholars, including F-1 and J-1 visa holders. Immigration and Compliance: Serve as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) and assist with maintaining the SEVIS database system. Help prepare and issue visas and other immigration documents for international students and scholars related to admissions, enrollment, and employment processes. Serve as the Clery Act representative and respond to international emergencies as needed. Program Development: Develop and manage new education abroad programs. Support degree-seeking (F1) and exchange (J1) international students and visiting international scholars. Foster community engagement through programs on campus and in the local community. Recruitment and Selection: Recruit, interview, and select students for study-abroad opportunities. Administer the Atkins Gleason Carew Fund for International Education Endowment. Additional Duties: Attend class visits and other presentations to promote study abroad programs. Review and approve program applications. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Strong organizational and administrative skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Experience with study abroad programs and international student advising. Familiarity with immigration regulations and SEVIS database management. Ability to work collaboratively with various campus departments. Passion for international education and cultural exchange. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Master’s degree and three years of professional experience related to international education administration. A degree in global or international studies or equivalent is preferred. Experience working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators. Understanding of higher education systems in the US and other countries, curriculum and credit transfer issues, and financial aid requirements. Knowledge of best practices in education abroad and effective marketing and promotion skills. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
