Location:

  • Los Angeles Probation (Cities: Downey, Sylmar, La Verne, Commerce, San Dimas)

Schedule:

  • Part-Time, "As Needed" Variable Hours - Sub pool

Pay:

  • $27-30 per hour, based on experience and credentials

Position Summary:

  • SPED Substitute Teacher - sub pool for LACOE youth probation sites.
  • SPED Instruction: Provide individualized, small group and whole-class instruction, actively adapting curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Implement and adhere to active IEPs and 504 Plans.
  • Hours of work: as this is a substitute pool position, there are no guaranteed hours nor schedule, but when selected for a tutoring position you will generally work during regular school hours for a 6-7 hour shift.
  • General Support: Execute hours as a General Substitute Teacher, assisting all juveniles with core academic subjects (reading, writing, math, science, GED prep) and credit recovery.
  • Planning & Assessment: Assess student needs and develop tailored lessons/activities aligned with learning objectives.
  • Collaboration & Compliance: Work closely with facility staff. Maintain accurate records of SPED services and progress toward IEP goals. Follow all safety protocols and use crisis management/de-escalation techniques.

Qualifications

  • Required Education/Experience: Valid teaching credential or valid 30-day substitute teaching permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (for requirements, please visit the CTC website).
  • Required Skills: Demonstrated experience implementing and documenting services related to IEPs and 504 Plans. Expert knowledge of SPED methodologies and differentiated instruction.
  • Preferred: Valid state teaching credential/certification in Special Education.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in a secure juvenile detention facility. Must be prepared for an environment involving challenging behaviors and high stress.
