We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgist to support our aerospace fastener manufacturing operations. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgist to support our aerospace fastener manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in metal properties, processing techniques, and failure analysis, with a strong understanding of aerospace standards, quality systems, safety protocols, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct metallurgical analysis and testing to evaluate material properties, including tensile strength, hardness, grain structure, and fatigue resistance.
- Develop and optimize heat treatment processes to meet aerospace specifications (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP, Mil-Specs).
- Perform failure analysis on fasteners and components to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to select appropriate materials and improve manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications for aerospace-grade fasteners.
- Maintain documentation of test results, procedures, and metallurgical reports.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives in materials performance and process efficiency.
- Writing and revising work instructions as needed to meet customer and industry requirements
- Mentor lab technicians, ensuring proper training, adherence to testing protocols, and timely execution of metallurgical evaluations.
- Review and approve lab reports and test data generated by technicians.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements in all metallurgical processes and lab operations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments within the lab and metallurgical testing areas.
- Train lab personnel on safe handling of materials, equipment, and hazardous substances.
- Work with supervision to identify skill gaps and provide coaching or training to support professional development.
- Design and implement training programs for lab staff on metallurgical techniques, equipment usage, and quality standards.
- Support onboarding of new team members with structured training plans and technical guidance.
- Provide feedback to supervision with tracking and evaluating training effectiveness to ensure continuous learning and skill advancement.
- Stay current with advancements in metallurgy, aerospace materials, and regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in metallurgy within aerospace or precision manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in metallurgical testing methods (e.g., microscopy, spectroscopy, mechanical testing).
- Familiarity with aerospace quality systems and certifications (ISO 9001, AS9100, NADCAP).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with statistical analysis and experimental design is a plus.
- Expertise in ferrous and nickel-based superalloys.
- Knowledge of powder metallurgy and advanced alloy development.
- Experience with metallurgical software tools for data analysis and reporting.
