Position Overview

Lab technicians perform chemical measurements and other tasks to meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently and profitably generating defensible data on time. A Technician III has demonstrated that they can operate independently with a high degree of proficiency across a variety of chemistry methods. The Lab Technician III will be assisting Analysts from multiple disciplines and providing support on multiple instruments. Technician III will report to the Technical Director onsite for the shift.

This role is an adjusted full time schedule. The shift is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday; 7am to 5pm. This is a full time position and will be key in keeping our lab running 7 days a week.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Preparation of samples for analysis/sample extraction
  • Preparation of reagents for lab use and/or shipment
  • Loading various instrumentation and starting sequences across various software platforms
  • Cleaning of laboratory glassware
  • Maintaining clean laboratory areas
  • Maintaining organized records of sample preparation and analysis
  • Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
  • Assisting the Group Leaders and analysts in acquiring and inventorying consumables, chemicals, and parts for instrumentation
  • Comply with McKinney Specialty Lab’s Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Comply with McKinney Specialty Lab’s Health and Safety Plan
  • Other duties as assigned by the Technical Director

Necessary Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
  • A Tech III has shown that they understand the physical and chemical principles underlying why procedures are specified the way they were for each method with which they work.
  • Consistent and accurate documentation, timeliness, and throughput to meet the standard of the laboratory.
  • Prior analytical laboratory experience of at least 1 year

Preferred Skills

  • General knowledge of lab practices and lab safety
  • Experience in an analytical laboratory testing nicotine and tobacco samples
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good organizational skills and strong communication skills
