Job Description
Position Purpose:
Responsible for performing a variety of routine analyses and screening of organic and inorganic substances to determine make up of hazardous waste and appropriate stabilization according to quality assurance and control procedures. Maintains the laboratory and equipment in compliance with regulatory and site specifications. This role is responsible for conducting quality checks, preparing solutions and standards, managing QC weekly work area reporting, performing instrument preventive maintenance, and overseeing area based inventory management. The position also supports process development activities including fractionation, rotary evaporation, stability blend development, and tank/pit blending operations. This role is essential in maintaining laboratory quality standards and supporting continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Targeted Annual Pay Range: Minimum of $60000 to a maximum of $65000

Primary Duties /Responsibilities
- Proficient in all Lab Technician III essential duties and responsibilities.
- Perform a variety of fingerprint screens, cyanide analysis and other wet chemistry methods to determine the nature of hazardous substances.
- Analyze incoming bulk loads to characterize waste samples according to prescribed procedures.
- Operate, maintain, and upkeep various basic analytical instrumentation (bomb calorimeters, Karl Fischer titrators, halogen titrators, Ion Chromatography, pH meters, etc.)
- Perform regular QC testing, analysis, and review. Have an understanding of the Veolia quality manual and required QC metrics.
- Maintain assigned work area inventory, including solution and standards preparation.
- Perform MDL testing in assigned areas. The chemist may be required to prepare and perform MDL studies for other ESS laboratories, necessitating travel to various reclamation and thermal facilities.
- Prepare weekly QC summaries for assigned work areas.
- Assist waste approvals department to assess potential disposal and treatments of hazardous waste.
- Develop and prepare lab-scale stabilization blends and other waste treatments which may include blend development or other specialized PD projects, in conjunction with the Technical and Performance Team. Perform process development work with fractional distillation and other distillation equipment, in conjunction with the Technical and Performance Team.
- Issue regular reports and coordinate with other departments and plant operations.
- Perform other laboratory analysis as requested by immediate supervisor.
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies in the disposal of hazardous waste materials
- Interpret analytical data, verify destruction or treatment of stabilization blends, verify product quality, and prepare COA’s (Certificate of Analysis for Product Samples).
- Up to 10% Travel
Education / Experience / Background:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related STEM discipline required
- Prior work experience with hazardous waste or chemical industry preferred
- Inorganic, organic, or analytical chemistry background strongly desired, but not required.
- Strong team player
- Strong customer service orientation
- Ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred
