Definition
The Education & Workforce Development Teacher/Instructor plays a vital role in providing tailored academic instruction and support to students at Redfield Academy and participants in Washoe YouthBuild programs. This collaborative position with the Washoe County School District and The Children's Cabinet involves organizing and implementing an instructional program aligned with district standards and policies, ensuring students achieve academic success.
Through education, vocational training, and community service, the instructor creates a positive learning environment, helping students acquire the skills needed for their High School diploma, Adult Diploma, or HSE. The goal is to empower students to redefine their future and secure employment in high-demand fields, fostering intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth in an equitable educational atmosphere.

Duties
- Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. These activities include direct and on-line instruction.
- Develops and adapts curriculum materials, lesson plans, and educational resources that align with the program's objectives and the unique needs of the students. Ensure that the curriculum is engaging, equitable, inclusive, and relevant, and promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Delivers high-quality and interactive academic instruction to students in subjects such as math, science, English language arts, social studies, and other relevant subjects. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of each student.
- Encourages and inspires students to set and achieve academic goals. Provide guidance and mentorship to help students overcome obstacles and develop a sense of self-confidence and independence.
- Collaborates with student's Case Manager to minimize barriers to education achievement.
- Provides individualized support and tutoring to students who require additional assistance in specific subjects or skills. Monitor students' academic progress and implement interventions as needed to help them stay on track.
- Regularly assesses student learning and progress using a variety of methods, such as quizzes, tests, projects, and presentations. Use assessment data to identify areas for improvement and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Works collaboratively with the Program Coordinator, Case Managers, fellow Instructors, and others involved in the youth's educational journey to implement the student's IEP.
- Works collaboratively with the student's case manager to implement the student's Academic Personal Plan.
- Engages in program activities, including community service projects, to build a strong sense of community and social responsibility among students.
- Fosters a positive, respectful and equitable classroom environment that encourages active participation and collaboration among students. Enforce consistent rules and guidelines to maintain a safe and productive learning atmosphere.
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Collaborates with other Workforce Development staff, such as vocational trainers, career counselors, and case managers, to ensure a holistic approach to student success and development.
- Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
- Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools, as measured by The Children's Cabinet and Washoe County School District.
- Participates in training and presentations about promising practices pertaining to teaching disadvantaged youth in alternative educational settings. Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating and continuous staff development.
- Embody the core mission, strategic focus and overall goals and objectives of the Children's Cabinet.
- Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of
- The Nevada High School Equivalency (HSE) Examination requirements
- Challenges and barriers experienced by disadvantaged youth and their families
- Justice, diversity, equity and inclusion as it pertains to the education system
- Youth empowerment strategies and techniques
- Keep appointments punctually, stay organized, and demonstrate follow-through.
- Learn new ideas and skills by reading and with hands-on training.
- Express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Work with adults and youth of diverse backgrounds and beliefs.
- Problem-solve in stressful situations.
- Apply attention to detail in instructional planning, classroom management, and data entry/documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality of service delivery.
- Bachelor's degree or higher preferred, but an AA with experience in the field to qualify as a substitute teacher may apply
- Possess a current Nevada Teaching License or current Nevada Substitute Teaching License with a willingness to become fully licensed.
- Math and/or Science specialization preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
- This is a full-time, multi-track, year-round position, eligible for benefits.
