What will I be doing?
The Crime Analyst (CA) I will analyze the firearms and ammunition eligibility status of applicants by utilizing criminal offenders record information and other firearms and ammunition eligibility related records using multiple systems. In addition, the CA I may process incoming firearm reports; respond to requests and issues from firearms applicants, law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, and other departments; receive, review, identify, and process applicant and firearm information; and provide oral and written correspondence to applicants. The above-described functions involve querying various databases and requesting and reviewing files. The CA I contacts state and federal criminal justice agencies, and firearms and ammunition dealers, to obtain and/or clarify information related to various firearm and/or ammunition issues or laws. The CA I will gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of California statutory codes, the criminal justice system, and regulations governing eligibility to purchase or possess firearms and/or ammunition in California.
DOJ has adopted telework for employees who can effectively perform their essential work functions remotely. After an initial training period, this position may allow for some telework opportunities. All telework schedules are temporary, based on current conditions and will be re-evaluated as conditions change.
This position is being advertised until filled and applications will be reviewed monthly with the following cutoff dates: 11/29/25, 12/31/25, 01/30/26, 02/27/26, 03/31/26, and 04/30/26.
