Brief Description
The Substance Use Counselor Clinician I is dedicated to supporting individuals struggling with addiction and substance abuse. The counselor will work closely with clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals to promote recovery and well-being.

The counselor will work closely with clients, their families, and other healthcare professionals to promote recovery and well-being.
Qualifications
- Clinician Trainee - Graduation from an accredited undergraduate program with major in social work, psychology, behavior analysis, or other related degree required.
- Clinician Trainee - Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in progress from an accredited graduate program with major in Social Work, Counseling, or other related degree required. These degrees must be license eligible (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC)
- Clinician I - Master of Arts or Master of Science degree from an accredited graduate program with a major in Social Work, Counseling, or other related degree preferred.
- Clinician I - BBS registration as an ACSW, AMFT, or APCC.
- BBS registration, licenses, credentials or like certifications must remain active and valid with their governing entity, if applicable.
- One year of experience working as a Substance Abuse Counselor required.
- Knowledge of community resources preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, Word.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Understanding of current evidenced based treatment specific to women in recovery.
- A valid California driver’s license is required of staff who have regular driving duties, and the driving record must meet the requirements of their position and be approved by the agency’s insurance company.
- Ability to communicate ideas in oral and written form.
- Protect and honor individual integrity through confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a harmonious manner with subordinates, supervisors, and others.
- Must possess knowledge of current issues and trends in substance use treatment and recovery.
- Ability to instruct in group and individual settings.
- Adhere to all applicable legal and ethical standards.
- Ability to work effectively with cultural/ethnic diversity.
- Physical, mental, and emotional health adequate to perform duties.
- Maintain current Medic First Aid certification and responds appropriately to medical incidents, ensuring the health and safety of clients and staff.
- Operate a vehicle for work-related activities, including visiting clients, attending meetings, and other necessary appointments or engagements.
- Provide direct clinical services to clients.
- Utilize program specific screening tools, providing admission assessment and treatment planning for clients.
- Keep comprehensive clinical records that meet standards of the agency, The Joint Commission and contract.
- Maintain caseload of clients as primary counselor.
- Collaborate with the referring agency or other community agencies working with the client to coordinate treatment.
- Collect outcome data, including consumer satisfaction surveys, as required by the agency and contract.
- Must implement program goals and objectives to meet and maintain contractual requirements and productivity.
- Provide direct substance use treatment to clients.
- Facilitate group and individual substance use treatment and recovery services.
- Participate in scheduled peer review.
- Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
- Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
- Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
- Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide
- Attend all required meetings and trainings.
- Report any suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
- Report any client imminent danger to self or to others or gravely disabled immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
- Other duties as assigned.
