The Supply Chain Manager leads production planning, scheduling, and inventory control for Thermcraft, located in Winston-Salem, ensuring efficient operations and timely order fulfillment. This role oversees material handling, shipping and receiving, customs compliance, and also manages the local Purchasing Specialist. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead the Production Control & Inventory Team at Thermcraft.
- Directly supervise the Shipping/Receiving Department.
- Directly supervise the local Purchasing Specialist.
- Guide and hold team members accountable for performance and process discipline.
Order & Production Management
- Oversee the order creation, job packets, and order release for the plant.
- Ensure correct sequencing of manufacturing operations to meet required ship dates.
- Maintain and analyze production forecasts and schedules, updating as needed.
- Act as the central hub for open projects, ensuring visibility for production, sales, and accounting.
- Develop and maintain dispatch lists, ensuring work orders are completed promptly.
- Monitor workloads across departments, ensuring proper work distribution and urgency.
- Release work to the plant using Full Kit methodology or approved exceptions.
- Expedite vendors, suppliers, and outside services to ensure timely material arrival and prevent bottlenecks.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and locations.
- Oversee shipping and receiving, burn table operations, and ensure customs compliance.
- Monitor receiving inspection velocity and finished goods ready to ship.
- Conduct weekly ship plan analysis to align production schedules.
- Review material cost and look for optimizations and savings to meet yearly cost saving metrics
- Utilize data analytics to monitor and evaluate production performance, identify trends, and implement cost improvements.
- Identify and address production-related issues and bottlenecks promptly.
- Manage and act on idle days related to QA, S&R, and outside resources.
- Maintain accurate records of project schedules and adjust as new information is received.
- Provide timely updates to sales and internal stakeholders on order status, delays, and projected ship dates.
- Lead structured weekly meetings to ensure alignment and clear communication.
- Collaborate closely with sales, production management, accounting, shipping, and purchasing to facilitate timely project completion and product invoicing.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively and hold team members accountable.
- Drive a culture of urgency, accountability, and structured processes.
- Maintain and enforce a Production Control Playbook, ensuring routine tasks are executed consistently.
- Escalate issues appropriately to maintain flow and prevent disruptions.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in manufacturing software (MRP/ERP systems), MS Excel, and data analysis tools.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to assess production performance and make data-driven decisions.
- Logistical Project Management: Proficiency in coordinating project delivery dates and information.
- Leadership & Influence: Ability to guide the production control team, shipping department, and purchasing specialist, and perform internal/external supplier expedites.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate production data.
- Teamwork & Collaboration: Ability to work closely with sales, production, shipping, purchasing, and suppliers.
- Sense of Urgency: Ability to create urgency as needed to meet deadlines and customer commitments.
- Professional certifications, such as CPIM or CSCP from APICS/ASCM, are preferred.
- Experience with methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Just-in-Time is a plus.
- A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field is required.
