The Anesthesia Technician supports the anesthesia team by preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment and supplies. The role ensures that anesthetic procedures run safely and efficiently by assisting with equipment setup, monitoring, and maintenance in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and set up anesthesia machines, monitoring devices, airway equipment, and medications prior to surgical procedures.

Ensure anesthesia supplies are stocked, organized, and readily available for each case.

Assist anesthesia providers during induction, maintenance, and emergence phases as directed.

Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of anesthesia machines and related equipment.

Monitor inventory of anesthesia medications and supplies, and notify supervisors of shortages or equipment malfunctions.

Maintain accurate records of anesthesia equipment checks, maintenance, and supply usage.

Assist with patient positioning, transport to and from the OR, and application of monitoring devices when needed.

Adhere to strict infection control, sterilization, and safety protocols in all anesthesia equipment handling.

Assist in cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking anesthesia workstations and OR rooms between cases.

Participate in continuing education and training programs to stay current on anesthesia technology and best practices.

Education/Experience

Qualifications & Skills

High school diploma or equivalent required; formal anesthesia technician training preferred.

Prior experience in an operating room, ambulatory surgery center, or anesthesia department preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications (e.g., Certified Anesthesia Technician) a plus.

Skills & Attributes

Knowledge of anesthesia equipment, monitors, and supply management.

Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on anesthesia machines and related devices.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain sterile and well-stocked equipment.

Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, nurses, and OR staff.

Physical stamina to assist with patient movement, equipment setup, and prolonged standing during procedures.

Commitment to patient safety, infection control, and adherence to OR protocols.

Working Conditions & Schedule

On-site role within the OR and perioperative environment at Ohio Surgery Center.

Daytime shifts with possible variability depending on surgical schedule; may include early mornings or occasional evenings.

Exposure to anesthesia gases, surgical environment, and potentially high-stress situations.

Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting or moving equipment, and assisting with patient positioning.

Strict adherence to PPE, sterile technique, and infection control protocols is required.
