Description
The Sr. Buyer is responsible for the procurement of most of the Project Engineering Department’s requirements relative to the purchasing of materials/parts and service within allowed costs. The Sr. Buyer is accountable for cost savings (whenever practical) through competitive sourcing or through the introduction of alternative sources via the proper approval. The Sr. Buyer is responsible for becoming fully knowledge of SAP functionally as it applies to purchasing and related activities.

The Sr. Buyer is responsible for the procurement of most of the Project Engineering Department’s requirements relative to the purchasing of materials/parts and service within allowed costs. The Sr. Buyer is accountable for cost savings (whenever practical) through competitive sourcing or through the introduction of alternative sources via the proper approval. The Sr. Buyer is responsible for becoming fully knowledge of SAP functionally as it applies to purchasing and related activities.
- Responsible for partnering with projects managers to develop RFQs, source suppliers and evaluate bids.
- Present commercial evaluations and recommendations to Project Engineering and Sr. Management based on various factors including quality, price, and overall value.
- Develop and work with counterparties to develop agreed Terms & Conditions.
- Interact with SAP to issue, confirm and expedite purchase orders as required by the Project Engineering team as well as maintain all support paper work required to process all purchases.
- Negotiate contracts for delivery of goods and services with new and existing suppliers.
- Negotiate NDA’s specific contract terms and conditions, including price and payment terms by liaising with Legal Team.
- Support supplier kick off and progress meetings as needed.
- Prepare and analyze spend reports to determine and evaluate opportunities for cost savings.
- Track project progress as it relates to procurement activities including RFQ deadlines, delivery timeline, and invoice dispute resolution.
- Maintain current cost and control of all items purchased.
- Furnish lead-time advice and maintain delivery schedules on all items and services purchased to ensure the procurement cycle remains on time.
- Implement and maintain contracts relative to leased equipment for capital projects.
- Recommend improvements in purchasing methods.
- Maintain professional relationships with suppliers in order to optimize cost and reduce risk for Kaneka.
- Visit and audit present and potential suppliers as required.
- Perform such additional duties as may be required for the execution of the Sr. Buyer’s responsibilities or those assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
- Support and work with other Purchasing Department personnel to reduce work load.
- Use SAP to monitor trends and create reports to improve the company’s bottom line.
- Be familiar with ISO 9001-2000.
- Attend Purchasing and Capital Project meetings as required.
