Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Biology Facultyprovides engaging, high-quality instruction across the biological sciences with a particular emphasis on Anatomy and Physiology. This position supports student learning and success in transfer and health science pathways by delivering courses that build foundational knowledge of biological principles, the structure and function of the human body, and scientific inquiry.

The instructor promotes active and inclusive learning through laboratory and classroom experiences, develops curriculum aligned with program and transfer requirements, and participates in departmental assessment and community engagement initiatives. This role contributes to the School of STEM’s mission to advance scientific literacy, critical thinking, and workforce readiness in the life sciences.

Core Responsibilities

  • Teach Anatomy and Physiology and related biology courses in support of transfer and health science programs.
  • Develop, assess, and continuously improve curriculum and course materials in accordance with program and transfer requirements.
  • Foster an inclusive and equitable learning environment that promotes student success and persistence.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods, including technology-enhanced and active learning strategies.
  • Incorporate laboratory and simulation experiences that reinforce core biological concepts and technical skills.
  • Maintain accurate records, evaluate student performance, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide assessment, curriculum review, and professional development.
  • Engage in service to the college, student advising, and community or industry partnerships that support STEM education.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, or a closely related field; or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in biology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biological principles with the ability to teach Anatomy and Physiology and general biology courses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience at the community college level, particularly in Anatomy and Physiology and other lab-based courses.
  • Experience using diverse instructional strategies to engage students with varied academic backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction, including use of Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas) and digital learning tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment that supports student achievement.
  • Commitment to the community college mission and to fostering student learning, retention, and completion.
  • Experience with curriculum design, student learning outcomes assessment, and program improvement.
  • Familiarity with virtual or hybrid lab modalities and anatomy simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of health science and pre-nursing program pathways and the role of A&P courses within them.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence of collaboration on departmental or interdisciplinary initiatives.
