In this role, you’ll design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Vantor’s mission-critical applications. This position plays a key role in ensuring our systems are maintainable, performant, and ready to scale with customer needs.

We’re hiring a Software Development Engineer to join our Multi-source Tasking API team. In this role, you’ll design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Vantor’s mission-critical applications. This position plays a key role in ensuring our systems are maintainable, performant, and ready to scale with customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable backend services and automation workflows in Python.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs using modern frameworks such as FastAPI and Pydantic.
- Apply strong understanding of RESTful design principles, schema management, and performance optimization.
- Build and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
- Containerize and orchestrate applications using Docker and Kubernetes to ensure consistency, scalability, and reliability.
- Deploy and manage applications in cloud environments.
- Utilize core cloud services and infrastructure automation, monitoring, and performance-tuning practices.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional, agile teams.
- Communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrate ownership of projects, mentor peers, and drive process improvements.
- Approach challenges with analytical thinking, creativity, and data-driven reasoning.
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, Asylee, or Refugee).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience, OR equivalent practical work experience.
- Proficiency in Python, focused on building scalable, maintainable backend services and automation workflows.
- Hands-on experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, and RESTful API development.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills in agile, cross-functional environments.
- Understanding of object-oriented and microservice-based architectures, design patterns, and scalability principles.
- Exposure to event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka) and API gateway integrations (e.g., Kong, Envoy) for routing, throttling, and observability.
- The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $82,000.00 - $136,000.00 annually.
- The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $90,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually.
