A Typical Day in the Life of a Product Data Analyst at DSG:
- Coordinate and execute complex product data transformations — such as vendor reconciliations, large-scale product merges and reconfigurations of product assortments — ensuring consistency of identifiers, hierarchies, and attributes across ERP and downstream systems.
- Partner closely with the Costing and Development Teams to design, test, and validate data pipelines between the ERP and the PDW, ensuring field-level mapping accuracy, referential integrity, and timely synchronization.
- Train and support Eclipse users, especially those who apply governance standards to product, and those who maintain clean product data.
- Troubleshoot and resolve systemic data issues that extend beyond routine cleanup — identifying root causes in integrations, system logic, or configuration settings, and driving permanent solutions.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for complex product data initiatives, advising on architectural implications, vendor data conflicts, and downstream reporting dependencies to ensure the long-term stability and scalability of the product data ecosystem.
- Data stewardship activities — including product setup, attribute updates, and status changes — while ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant data entry across all ERP and integrated systems.
- Oversee product master data integrity and consistency across PDW and Eclipse system, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with data governance standards and business rules.
- Monitor and optimize data quality and processes, leveraging tools, audits, and reporting to identify gaps, drive continuous improvement, and support business decision-making.
- Continuously assess and improve team tools and workflows, advocating for automation, process simplification, and enhanced integration between ERP and PDW systems.
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of the Eclipse ERP system.
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of data governance principles, field-level validation, data modeling, and lifecycle management.
- Powerful sense of ownership and accountability for data accuracy and process efficiency.
- Familiarity with data integration concepts, ETL processes, and cross-system data synchronization especially between PDW and Eclipse ERP.
- Experience mastering product data and/or applying governance controls to exceptionally large data sets.
- Process-minded; ability to envision and develop workflows to enable process efficiencies.
- Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into data structures and rules.
- Comfortable working with large data sets to identify inconsistencies, patterns, or opportunities for process improvement.
- Experience with product data, ideally in a retail or distribution landscape.
- Experience with SQL databases and other data manipulated tools preferred.
- Experience with Plumbing, HVAC and/or Electrical products preferred.
- Ability to efficiently collaborate between departments and people involved in the business and explain data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Skilled in documenting data standards, business rules, and process flows clearly and consistently.
