We are looking for an individual knowledgeable in both hard-bid and negotiated estimating experience on commercial and industrial projects. This role involves being able to review bid documents to create a plan and assist a team to arrive at complete and accurate bid numbers. The Estimator will generate and manage estimates required for sales, pre-construction and bidding efforts. Provide estimates, budget control and studies for projects and potential projects during business development, pre-construction, and construction phases of a project and across all scopes, systems, and assemblies. Estimates vary from conceptual to full guarantee maximum price estimates to lump sum bids. Ability to complete full quantity take-offs to support accurate estimates for all disciplines in commercial projects including, but not limited to civil and site work, structural, concrete, building skin, finishes, mechanical, and electrical. A complete understanding of the interrelationship of the cost of labor, material, equipment, and productivity in the unit costs used at each level of an estimate.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with Project Manager to develop and maintain pre-construction and construction estimates.
  • Lead project lump-sum bidding process.
  • Build estimates based on a practical understanding of design, constructability, logistics, sequencing and means and methods of a project.
  • Estimator will be a key collaborator for new and existing subcontractor relationships for estimating, bidding and project award.
  • Prepare estimate presentations, special studies, budget control reports and estimating documents for projects and client presentations.
  • Understanding of market labor and conditions and impacts on construction costs.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs, variance and maintain quantity controls.

Requirements

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proven written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Experience interpreting and understanding construction plans and designs

Education And Experience

  • Must have at least 5+ years of Construction Estimating experience
  • Previous experience using HeavyBid, HCSS, or other comparable estimating software
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Must have hard-bid and negotiated-bid experience
  • Strong working knowledge of construction methods, processes, and management practices
  • Must have experience creating and closing own estimates
  • At least five years recent (past year) estimating experience with a GC or Construction Management Contractor

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role. This role requires the individual to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. This role requires the individual to make substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers often. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to

5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 37.5 hours each week to maintain full time status. Extended hours may be required based on the business need.
