The mission of IU Education Abroad is to promote education abroad by Indiana University students through participation in quality programs in a wide range of disciplines. The purpose is to enhance international awareness and understanding and enrich curricula on every campus of the university, as well as to expand educational opportunities abroad for students from broad-ranging backgrounds. As the most effective and dramatic experience by which students can achieve international and intercultural learning, education abroad will contribute significantly to careers in all fields of specialization and should be an integral part of an education at Indiana University.

IU Education Abroad facilitates the education abroad experiences of approximately 4,600 students annually from all Indiana University campuses, with about 75 percent of those students receiving some form of financial aid. We strive to broaden and increase participation in education abroad, international internship, and service-learning programs.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assures that students receive pre-departure information regarding travel, housing, finances, academics, and visas.
  • Initiates electronic permissions and/or registers applicants in appropriate IU Education Abroad courses and sections.
  • Serves as liaison with partner institutions and organizations, admissions offices at host universities abroad, IU offices administering programs, and consular offices in the United States.
  • Coordinates Consortium programs' applications, admissions, correspondence, visa documentation, and transcripts.

General Responsibilities

  • Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admissions into that school and accompanying material, such as transcripts, to determine eligibility.
  • Maintains records and databases of applications; updates and purges as necessary; gathers and collates information from records and prepares reports.
  • Reviews applications for completeness, contacts applicants for any missing information or to resolve discrepancies and obtains any necessary information from other sources.
  • Schedules and oversees any applicant interviews.
  • Makes recommendations regarding admissions and financial aid decisions, and contacts applicant regarding the decision on the admission application.
  • Responds to phone and email inquiries on admissions process and status of applications; may assist in the design of recruiting events and materials.
  • Counsels potential students regarding courses and grades required for admission.
  • May supervise temporary staff in the admissions office; monitors and evaluates job performance.
  • Maintains files and databases on students admitted into the school; generates reports based on this information.

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

  • Bachelor's degree

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

$16.80 per hour
