Internship Location

This internship is located at the Steel Dynamics Corporate office in Fort Wayne, IN. This internship will take place during summer 2026 term.

What Are My Responsibilities as a Nursing Intern at Steel Dynamics?

• Help develop a streamlined nurse onboarding process.
• Contribute to research and development of more robust physical forms.
• Assist with employee health screenings, medical surveillance, and pre-employment evaluations.
• Support occupational health staff in providing basic care, first aid, and wellness education.
• Help manage and track workplace injuries, worker’s compensation cases, and related records.
• Participate in health and safety initiatives, employee training, and compliance activities.
• Contribute to the organization and upkeep of clinical supplies, equipment, and records.

Examples of Projects Steel Dynamics Nursing Interns Have Completed

• Perform direct patient care activities such as blood draws, injections, and vital sign monitoring, gaining hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of occupational health nurses.
• Assist with the administration of pre-employment and periodic physicals, including vision and hearing screenings, ECG/heart monitoring, and documentation using electronic health records.
• Conduct supervised drug and alcohol screening procedures including breath alcohol testing (BAT) and urine drug screens, following chain-of-custody protocols and maintaining regulatory documentation.
