The College of Education at the University of Iowa is making a major investment in addressing critical mental health issues. The Department of Counselor Education is working to make a significant impact in the field of rural mental health in the State of Iowa. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative clinical faculty member to contribute to our growing [Clinical Mental Health Counseling](https://education.uiowa.edu/areas-study/counseling-and-mental-health/clinical-mental-health-counseling) program.
*Position*
The Department of Counselor Education at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open-rank, clinical-track, academic-year faculty position in the [Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program](https://education.uiowa.edu/areas-study/counseling-and-mental-health/clinical-mental-health-counseling) to begin August 19, 2026.
We seek an individual with interests and experience related to clinical mental health counseling, rural communities, and counselor education and development.
This Individual Should Demonstrate
*Responsibilities*
By August 2026, Prospective Candidates Must Have
Earned doctorate in Counseling, from a CACREP-accredited program,
*OR*
An earned doctorate in a closely related field with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from a CACREP-accredited program.

- Skills as an effective instructor at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Commitment to professional service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve and support individual's mental health including those in rural communities.
- Experience collaborating with colleagues and communities from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
*Responsibilities*
- Being a core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA program,
- Teaching courses, including supervision of clinical experiences, in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA program, in areas consistent with the candidate's interests and department needs,
- Engage in professional productivity that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve the lives of individuals in need of clinical mental health services,
- Support program initiatives that enhance the instructional and clinical experiences of our CMHC students,
- Advise students,
- Engage in professional, university, collegiate, and or departmental service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve the lives of individuals in need of clinical mental health services
By August 2026, Prospective Candidates Must Have
Earned doctorate in Counseling, from a CACREP-accredited program,
*OR*
An earned doctorate in a closely related field with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from a CACREP-accredited program.
*Required Qualifications*
- Concentration or specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling,
- Experience in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses,
- Experience in providing clinical supervision reflective of CACREP standards and practices,
- Demonstrated commitment to create positive relationships with community counseling providers including school settings,
- Be a National Certified Counselor, NCC, or certification eligible.
- Eligible for LMHC the State of Iowa,
- Established teaching, research, and service record reflective of expected requirements for appointment at the rank of clinical associate or clinical full professor, respectively,
- Experience in the practice of clinical mental health counseling,
- Be LMHC, LPC or eligible for counselor licensure,
- Experience teaching in a CACREP accredited graduate program
- Experience contributing to a welcoming and respectful academic environment
