The Role You'll Contribute
The Laboratory Assistant I performs various laboratory support procedures in assigned areas which may include phlebotomy and/or specimen processing in clinical and anatomical pathology areas. The Laboratory Assistant I must meet the required basic continuing education and department specific requirements. Work customarily involves practical knowledge in various laboratory procedures and support functions. May be asked to perform any of the following non-technical functions:
The Patient Sitter performs assigned duties and responsibilities specific to the role in a consistently safe, competent and compassionate manner under the direction of the assigned nurse. Assigned duties may include providing a direct and continuous line of vision for the behavioral health patient on constant observation and providing safety and companionship for the patient at high risk for fall injury. The Sitter works in cooperation with all team members in an effort to accomplish departmental goals and objectives.
The Value You'll Bring To The Team
Perform the role of the one-on-one Sitter for observation and patient safety.
Sit with patients as assigned keeping the patient in site at all times.
Occupy patients in need of companionship; do not share personal information.
If the patient is under an involuntary hold it is imperative that the sitter adhere to the established hospital guidelines for up to and including items for patient safety such as: o Only plastic utensils and disposable paper items o Nothing sharp or can be made sharp is allowed in patient possession o No items to be brought in by visitors without checking with primary care nurse o Monitor for any signs of agitation or increased anxiety and report immediately to the clinical nursing staff on the unit remaining out of harms way. o Documents constant observation *Assists in controlling cost to the patient and the department *Utilizes the principles of cost containment by conserving equipment & supplies.
Demonstrates competency in all procedure within Scope of Practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served o Child o Adolescent o Adult o Geriatric.
Communicates patient care problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.Communicates effectively to appropriate individuals to meet the needs of patients, family and the environment.
Completes Risk Management indicator tools appropriately.Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
Demonstrates awareness of patients rights and functions as a patient advocate.
Functions in a professional and calm manner during emergent/crisis situations.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
High School Grad or Equiv High school graduate or GED Required
Prior hospital or medical experience
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
