Associate Systems Administrator - Cloud & Field Operations

Location: Flexible (Hybrid or 100% Remote, Approved States)

Compensation: $42 - $55/hour (negotiable based on experience)

Sonoma Technology, a Spheros Environmental company, is looking for a hands-on Associate Systems Administrator to support AWS infrastructure and field communications systems used in environmental monitoring programs. The role has two core functions: Participate in recurring OS patching, security maintenance, and routine cloud/system administration across our AWS environments and provide remote technical support to field teams, including networking break-fix assistance, communications troubleshooting, and OS-level support for deployed systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Cloud systems administration: Plan and execute OS patching cycles; conduct routine security and access reviews; apply configuration updates across distributed AWS environments; and support maintenance and monitoring using industry-standard RMM and EDR platforms.
• Field & communications support: Procure, configure, deploy, and maintain wireless networking equipment, cellular services, and field PCs (Windows/Linux) used in field studies and industrial fenceline monitoring projects.
• Operational discipline & collaboration: Coordinate maintenance windows with project teams; track work through ticketing systems; maintain documentation; and follow structured operational and security procedures.
  
  

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of relevant IT systems administration experience (cloud or hybrid environments preferred)
• Solid networking fundamentals (routing, VPN, firewalls, wireless)
• Comfortable administering both Linux and Windows systems in a production environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of AWS services and cloud administration best practices, including security, monitoring, and resource management
• Experience supporting distributed/remote devices is a plus
• AWS certification is a plus
