Summary
Position Overview:
Children’s Day Preschool (CDP) seeks a talented and motivated individual to fill our part-time position as Staff Accountant. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Staff Accountant will be an integral part of our small, highly productive operations team.
As our Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of all general ledger functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries, bank reconciliations for monthly soft closings and the annual hard close, and preparing and maintaining all supporting documentation, schedules, and reports for the annual audit. Other accounting responsibilities include maintaining fiscal policies and internal controls to ensure organizational financial health and compliance with accounting standards necessary to facilitate CDPs mission and vision.
An outstanding staff accountant candidate will also have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Our school provides year-round preschool programming to 117 children (ages 2.5 to 5); combining education and social services for our children and families.

Duties
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping:
- Perform accounts payable functions: record invoices, investigate discrepancies, and ensure timely processing and payment.
- Perform accounts receivable and cash receipts functions: record payments and process cash receipts.
- Enter all financial transactions accurately into accounting software.
- Manage day-to-day paperwork: copying, scanning, filing (binders/vendor folders), emailing, uploading, etc.
- Perform data entry into spreadsheets as needed.
- Follow internal control processes for bank deposits.
- Assist with monthly bank reconciliations.
- Assist with payroll processing and related documentation.
- Support audit preparation and grant compliance documentation.
- Maintain organized financial records and vendor files.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent
- At least 1 years of relevant accounting experience preferred
- Nonprofit experience is preferred; motivation to work in this sector is essential.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Experience with automated accounting / payroll systems; proficiency in QuickBooks Online is preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred, but not required
- Detail oriented, resourceful, collaborative, and agile
