Although this position is remote it does require the ability and willingness to travel to support client engagements up to 30% of total time on an annual basis. Job Overview

We seek an innovative and strategic thinker with deep expertise in health information technology, interoperability, and data strategy to serve as our Director, Technology Strategy. This role leads Intrepid’s strategic approach to the use of technology in advancing community health, serving as a subject matter expert (SME) on health data exchange, digital infrastructure, and technology-enabled transformation.

The Director will split time between supporting client project delivery, advancing Intrepid’s internal technology strategy and offerings), and contributing to firm-wide leadership and management activities. The majority of time will be spent on client engagements (approximately 50-65%), while meaningful time will also be devoted to internal strategy, team leadership, and firm-wide initiatives. This allocation may shift depending on client needs, direct report responsibilities, and strategic priorities. The role requires experience in consulting or a similarly fast-paced professional services environment, proven success in technology strategy and implementation, market research and analysis, and strong communication, facilitation, and leadership skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Consulting & Technology Strategy

  • Serve on client engagements for the majority of your time, typically around 50-65%, with flexibility based on leadership responsibilities and firm priorities.
  • Provide senior-level subject matter expertise in health IT strategy, interoperability, and digital transformation, and technology enabled community health solutions.
  • Lead and oversee assigned project teams, setting strategic direction, ensuring quality, and driving alignment with client objectives and organizational standards.
  • Guide the development of comprehensive technology assessments, roadmaps, and implementation strategies that integrate operational and technological considerations.
  • Ensure client deliverables – such as reports, technology frameworks, data governance models, and procurement guidance – consistently reflect best practices, actionable insights, and measurable impact.
  • Proactively monitor and ensure client satisfaction, addressing feedback, identifying opportunities for improvement, and maintaining strong client relationships throughout engagements.
  • Advise clients on long-term technology strategy, organizational adoption, and interoperability planning to support sustainable, system-wide improvements.
  • Mentor and coach consulting staff on project execution, client engagement, and application of advanced technology methodologies to enhance team capabilities and delivery excellence.

Market Growth & Strategy

  • Analyze technology market drivers, regulatory trends, and opportunities related to health IT, data sharing, and digital equity.
  • Collaborate with senior team members and executive leadership to develop and execute Intrepid’s technology-focused business development strategies.
  • Identify emerging client needs and recommend service offerings or partnerships to expand Intrepid’s impact.
  • Support client growth, driving follow-on work with existing clients and participating in efforts to bring on new clients.
  • Represent the firm externally at industry events, conferences, and through publications on technology strategy and innovation.
  • Use data insights to inform market strategies, guide business development efforts, and measure effectiveness of initiatives.

Service Alignment, Delivery & Coaching

  • Lead the evolution of the firm’s technology service areas, such as interoperability strategy, data governance, and digital health architecture.
  • Coach staff on new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to strengthen the firm’s technology consulting capabilities.
  • Partner with leadership to align service delivery models with evolving client needs and market conditions.
  • Foster knowledge sharing, professional development, and cross-functional collaboration across the firm.

Operational Leadership & Organizational Impact

  • Ensure the technology strategy function operates efficiently, including workflow optimization, resource allocation, and budget management, making adjustments as needed to maintain effectiveness and profitability.\
  • Establish, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), goals, and milestones; monitor progress and implement corrective action plans in a timely manner when objectives are off track.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across technology strategy and consulting functions, piloting new tools, methodologies, and/or processes to enhance organizational performance.
  • Oversee governance, risk management, and compliance related to technology initiatives, data governance, and vendor partnerships, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
  • Mentor and develop direct reports and other staff in operational best practices, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen team capabilities and leadership readiness.
  • Oversee research and development of new service lines, products, and processes in the realm of technology strategy such as new consulting product lines or technology assisted consulting services / tool design.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to align technology operations with broader organizational goals, ensuring the technology strategy function contributes measurable impact to firmwide success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop assigned direct reports, setting clear goals and providing ongoing performance feedback.
  • Hold direct reports accountable in alignment with the company’s progressive discipline policy, in partnership with People Operations.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and professional growth for assigned direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture aligned with company values.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, labor laws, and organizational standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a Healthcare IT (e.g. MSHI, MHIHIM, or similar) or related field (e.g., MBA, MHA, MPH) preferred.
  • 8–10 years of experience leading technology strategy, implementation, or consulting projects in health care or human services fields.
  • Demonstrated success leading technology-related business development and client engagements.
  • Subject matter expertise in health IT systems, interoperability standards (e.g., HL7 FHIR, TEFCA), data governance, and digital health strategy.
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with technology vendors, interoperability initiatives, and data exchange programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with demonstrated experience leveraging data to track KPIs, inform decisions, set and monitor goals, and implement timely corrective actions to ensure objectives are met.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (MS Office, Google Suite, Slack, Smartsheet, etc.).
  • Public speaking experience and thought leadership in digital health or health IT preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing and developing high-performing teams with full supervisory responsibility, fostering innovation, and aligning technology initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Experience and/or certifications in cybersecurity practices preferred.
  • Experience leading application development teams preferred.
