Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Oversees the construction, maintenance, and use of apparatus designed specifically for the study of sleep in the fly Drosophila melanogaster
- Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
- Organizes analytical data of performed experiments
- Installs and maintains research equipment
- Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
- Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
- Trains junior-level staff
- Plans experiments and short-term goals
- May submit findings for publication
- May travel in order to service various research sites
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in science or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of related research experience
- Training in Information Technology or Computer Programming
- Familiarity with Linux platforms (Arch Linux), python, Structured Query Language (SQL), and R programming language
- Experience setting up Wi-Fi stations and routers
- Familiarity with web-based access to router IPs like NETGEAR (or similar)
- Experience with command line interfaces (CLI)
- Experience using GitHub

- Ability to build, use, and modify the "ethoscope system," a Raspberry Pi based apparatus for the measurement and disruption of sleep like states in the fly
- Ability to troubleshoot computer/device interfaces
- Ability to read and manipulate python codes, use Raspberry PIs, and integrate Arduino and motor control modules
- Ability to read SQL data
