NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

The Customer Operations Division has oversight of the Department of Finance Business Centers, City Register’s Office, and the Land Records, Adjudication, and Collections divisions. Customer Operations is charged with the processing of tax payments, parking violations payments, and all other charges collected by DOF. The division is also responsible for recording property transfers, adjudicating parking and camera violations, and managing the full life cycle of the department’s enforcement activities related to unpaid business and excise taxes, parking fines, and Environmental Control Board summonses.

DOF’s Business Centers, one in each of the five of boroughs, are responsible for communicating amounts due for the processing of tax payments, parking violation payments, and all other charges collected by the department, as well as maintaining quality control of department records and delivering exceptional customer service to individuals seeking information on making payments. The business centers issue releases for individuals whose vehicles have been impounded, enroll customers in payment agreements, and help customers prepare for parking ticket hearings.

Duties

The Manhattan Business Center is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as Business Center Support Coordinator. Reporting to the Senior Director, the selected candidate's duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Provide support across the five (5) borough Business Centers, assisting with operational duties as needed.
  • Act as an administrative liaison between the borough offices, and other DOF units. Work closely with FIT to help resolve IT issues, for all the borough offices.
  • Close out Business Center Cashiers at the end of every shift.
  • Coordinate training when necessary.
  • Assist the Senior Director with all administrative tasks, including the entire hiring process, for all the five Borough Business Centers.
  • Prepare daily and monthly reports for senior management, ensuring that reconciliations are error free.
  • Occasionally assist borough office managers with special assignments.
  • Asist with assignments for other work units when required.
  • Determine service needs of respondents, by conducting interviews, reviewing documentation and/or records, and researching unit databases. Refer customers requiring additional assistance, to the Business Center managers.
  • Update all unit databases in a timely manner, including placing holds where applicable. Maintain correct up-to-date and relevant back-up documentation.
  • Regularly manage, special projects for the Senior Director.
  • Review and resolve cases requiring identification of misapplied payments, moving of payment for parcels and license plates, and assisting with administratively dismissing parking tickets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and under pressure, while maintaining a calm demeanor. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
