Safety Statement

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the Drug and Alcohol Policy and the required testing policy per the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The incumbent is required to fully comply with all operational safety rules and regulations established by Mountain Line. 

Job Purpose of a Trainer

The Trainer, reports directly to the Workforce Director, and is responsible for developing the skills and knowledge of all new and current employees’. This is accomplished through teaching, coaching, mentoring of internal and external customers, all Mountain Line Policies and Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and any information deemed necessary to ensure a safe work environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Travels within the Mountain Line service area performing safety training and crisis prevention training.
  • Develops safety training curricula and manuals in cooperation with the Workforce Director.
  • Trains new and current Transit operators to inspect and operate vehicles appropriate to job classification and license. 
  • Educates Transit Operators and Trainees on emergency response procedures and post accident policies and procedures in coordination with the Workforce Director.
  • Conducts new and ongoing behind-the-wheel training and appropriate post accident trainings to Transit Operators and Trainees.
  • Performs ride-along and follow-along evaluations per Mountain Line requirements and completes documentation.
  • Provides refresher training as requested and approved by the Workforce Director and Operations Director.
  • Coordinates training with Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and other agencies as appropriate and may provide training to other organizations.
  • Maintains appropriate files in compliance with Mountain Line policy, Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Federal Transportation Agency (FTA), and other federal, state and local requirements to document trainings, accidents and other records.

Attendance

Attendance should be regular and predictable. General employment policies with regard to vacation, sick, and unpaid leave apply. Occasional need to report to work on day off and work overtime.

Confidentiality

This position is occasionally involved in confidential personnel matters contained in accident, training, and testing files. This position is expected to respect and maintain employee and customer confidentiality.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Knowledge

  • Environmental, DOT, OSHA and FTA safety laws and regulations.
  • Principles of training and work scheduling.
  • Various training techniques including computer aided instructional materials.
  • Basic principles of accident investigation and transit operations.

Skills and Abilities 

  • Work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime and varied schedule.

Working Conditions, Exposure to Risks and Physical Dangers

This position requires physical effort such as walking, lifting, standing, squatting, reaching, pulling and manual dexterity. This position often works onboard moving vehicles and requires sitting, standing and holding for balance for long periods of time.

All personnel who are required to work with solvents, fluids, and other industrial agents while on duty are required to use only FTA, OSHA, or DOL approved goggles, work boots, protective masks, protective helmets, coveralls, other tools and equipment when cleaning, repairing, inspecting areas within Mountain Line premises and facilities.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalency. 
  • 2 years of additional education preferred.

Similar Work Experience

  • 2 years prior similar work experience
  • 1 year of bus operating experience preferred.

Licenses, Training and/or Certifications Required

  • 1st Aid and CPR Certification and Article 9 Certification.
  • Possess and maintain, or able to obtain within 90 days of offer of employment, an Arizona driver’s license, CDL B w/ Passenger endorsement, and a satisfactory driving record for the last five (5) years
