Description Of Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated LIMS Engineer to lead and support the implementation, integration, and enhancement of modern Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). In this role, you will work closely with the CLIA team, Lab Operations, and cross-functional technology groups to ensure the platform aligns with scientific, operational, and business objectives. You will gain hands-on experience with industry-leading LIMS platforms such as Labbit, Lockbox, and similar systems. Strong proficiency in Python, cloud deployment, and related tooling is essential to effectively customize, configure, and extend the platform to meet evolving laboratory needs.

This is an on-site or hybrid work position with expectations of being on-site a few times a week.

Duties

• Partner with third-party vendors to design, customize, and implement LIMS solutions that meet laboratory and compliance needs.
• Lead or support end-to-end LIMS implementation, including requirements gathering, configuration, testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Serve as the liaison between internal lab users and external vendors, resolving system issues and translating user needs into system enhancements.
• Collaborate with IT and lab teams to ensure smooth adoption, system scalability, and user satisfaction.
• Customize and extend the LIMS platform, developing new features to support evolving assays and technologies.
• Conduct and oversee LIMS testing activities with lab personnel.
• Design and build backend services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (AWS), using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
  
  

Requirements

• B.S. in Computer Science related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Java, C++, JavaScript
• Experience developing on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with non-computer scientists such as laboratory and clinical scientists as well as information technology staff.
  
  

Preferred

• M.S., in Computer Science related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of experience in the related field
• Hands-on experience with one or more modern LIMS platforms (e.g., Labbit, Lockbox, LabWare, Sapio, etc)
• Experience designing and building scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Strong proficiency in web framework (e.g., Django, Flask etc.) and architectural design.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform or Cloudformation).
• Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks such as CLIA, HIPAA, and 21 CFR Part 11.
• Experience working in a clinical, diagnostics, or biotech environment.
• Experience with continuous integration and deployment systems and tooling
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker
• Experience developing and maintaining codebases and software libraries following industry best practices
