Advanced Analytics Specialist at Health Advances
Health Advances is seeking an Advanced Analytics Specialist to support the enhancement the firm’s real-world data (RWD) and advanced analytics capabilities. The Advanced Analytics Specialist will play a key role as part of the Advanced Analytics Team. The Advanced Analytics Specialist takes primary responsibility for handling support requests from case teams that involve advanced SQL questions, Python scripts, Alteryx workflows, and helps determine a suitable methodology for the project. In many instances this will involve determining (mostly US) market sizing, quantifying dominant treatment paradigms, typical patient journeys, etc., leveraging an array or RWD sources.. This position reports to the Vice President, Advanced Analytics. This role requires attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent communication skills and collaborative teamwork are critical for success. Knowledge of healthcare is preferred but enthusiasm to learn about healthcare is required. Experience in management consulting is a plus, but not necessarily required.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Business Processes
- Support Advanced Analytics (AA) casework workstreams in a timely and efficient manner, and prioritize those requests independently where possible
- Support planning of AA workstreams in casework, and preemptively flag potential sources of variance in estimating the LoE for the tasks involved
- Build a library of commercial/proposal slides and one-pagers to explain the possibilities and limitations of AA information products to CHs, so that our offerings can be included in proposals in a responsible and efficient way
- Continuously expand our portfolio of available AA information products, including our library of SQL templates for recurring questions. Research and propose development of new ones, in line with demands from existing cases, and opportunities for new and innovative offerings to our clients
- Self-manage conflicting demands across tasks, while maintaining an approximately 50/50 split between support for casework/proposals and development of Health Advances IP that helps us work more efficiently and differentiate our offerings from the competition
Training
- Disseminate, update and expand our repository of DIY guides for the most commonly used tasks involving RWD and AA. Continuously improve on those
- Develop and deliver new AA trainings (both F2F and remote), geared to all levels and functional groups across Health Advances
- Provide 1:1 training and coaching to case team members in need of urgent upskilling in support of their casework
- Informal mentor for peers and Analysts
- Provides formal feedback as required
Data Governance
- Maintain our knowledge base of commonly used sources of RWD (e.g. TriNetX, Definitive Healthcare, IQVIA, PharmaProjects, NIS, PSPS, etc.), so that we can all tap into those databases and have access to the business metadata and domain knowledge required to interpret data correctly
- Stay up to date about competitors’ data sources (e.g., alternative RWD sources) as well as new potential data sources to expand into (e.g., genomics, lab results, hospital systems)
- Contribute to the AA SharePoint site, to keep this up-to-date and as informative and useful as possible
- Be an ambassador for responsible data governance, so that all Health Advances colleagues better understand how our data can be used and interpreted, and importantly: how they cannot be used
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following education, skills and experience:
- Undergraduate degree in a life science or business field, or relevant experience required
- Masters/PhD in a discipline relevant to the sector preferred
- Up-to-date knowledge on contemporary developments in the Life Sciences and Healthcare market
- Working knowledge of usability testing, and the ability to teach others how and where to run usability tests of our supporting materials
- Solid knowledge of SQL and data structures (specifically: Dimensional data modeling), and the ability to explain some of these advanced concepts to new(er) users (once sufficiently trained up)
- A “service and support” mindset, geared towards growing AA competencies across all Health Advances’ practices
- A self-starter with intrinsic interest in expanding the various technical and professional skills required to be effective in this role
- Must have advanced experience in Microsoft Office systems; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must live in the Boston area and work in the Newton office, or the Bay Area and work in the San Francisco office ~3 days a week
- Permanent US work authorization required
Specific Skills Preferred
- Expert level knowledge of SQL and data structures, and the ability to explain some of these advanced concepts to new(er) users
- Expert level knowledge of Alteryx, and the ability to explain how to work with this tool to new(er) users
- Expert level knowledge of PowerBI Suite (e.g., PowerBI, PowerQuery, PowerPivot)
- Advanced knowledge of SPSS
- Advanced knowledge of Python
- Advanced knowledge of (Bio-)statistics
This position is located in Newton, MA or San Francisco, CA. The start date is January 12, 2026.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The base pay range for this role is $90,000-125,000 USD. You are eligible for an annual incentive program (with a reasonable first year estimate ranging from $0-$16,250 USD). Both of these are subject to the rules governing the programs, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
