Summary

The Environmental Services Manager oversees the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of our nursing home facilities. The EVS Manager leads and manages the environmental services team to ensure a clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to creating a safe and comfortable living environment for our residents.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Management duties include, but are not limited to, hiring, training and developing, coaching and counseling, and terminating department staff, as deemed necessary.
  • Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor team performance to ensure high-quality service.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate goals, policies, and updates.
  • Oversee daily cleaning, and sanitization of resident rooms, common areas, and administrative spaces.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and sanitation protocols, particularly those related to healthcare and longterm care settings.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify areas requiring cleaning, repairs, or updates.
  • Manage vendor relationships for equipment servicing, pest control, and other external services as needed.
  • Ensure all cleaning, maintenance, and safety practices meet local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain documentation for inspections, maintenance records, and compliance audits.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and administrative teams during regulatory surveys or inspections.
  • Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Manage the environmental services budget, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and resource allocation.
  • Approve orders and invoices for supplies and services.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols for environmental services staff, including proper use of chemicals and equipment.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response for the facility.
  • Address and resolve maintenance or safety concerns promptly to ensure a hazard-free environment.
  • Ensure that all employment practices are administered fairly and without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, amnesty, or veteran status in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled conferences including department head meetings and interdisciplinary care plan meetings.
  • Recognize staff for exceptional care and job performance on a regular basis and as part of their performance evaluation.
  • Orient new staff and participate in recruitment and selection. Make job assignments and set priorities.
  • Monitor equipment and work areas to verify they are maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner; maintain strict adherence to procedures regarding cleaners or hazardous materials or objects; verify universal precautions and infection control, isolation, fire, safety and sanitation practices and procedures are followed; and promptly address any hazardous conditions and equipment.
  • Other special projects and duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental services, preferably in a healthcare or nursing home setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year of leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning protocols, infection control practices, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with maintenance management software is a plus.

Physical And Sensory Requirements

  • Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds to a minimum height of three (3) feet and be able to
  • push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of fifty (50) feet.
  • Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Bending and/or stooping for more than one (1) hour at a time.
  • Sitting for more than two (2) hours at a time.
  • Requires computer work with repetitive typing and concentrating on computer screen.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and responding to urgent situations.
