Lead AV Systems Technician

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Lead Audio-Visual Systems Technician / Integrator to join our growing team.

This position is ideal for an AV expert who thrives on delivering complex, enterprise-level AV projects with precision and excellence.

We design and integrate cutting-edge AV and control systems for boardrooms, council chambers, courtrooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, crisis control rooms, museums, divisible spaces, conference rooms, and other high-profile commercial environments. Our technicians work with the industry's leading technology, collaborating closely with architects, consultants, contractors, and IT teams to bring advanced AV systems to life.

We are looking for a hands-on leader who can read and execute systems as described in blueprints, manage field crews, solve problems under pressure, and deliver polished systems to our clients.

Job Responsibilities

System Installation & Configuration

  • Install and commission complete AV systems in commercial, educational, and government environments.
  • Program, configure, and tune Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) to deliver clear, reliable audio across diverse environments.
  • Install, align, and calibrate DVLED and LCD video walls along with commercial displays; deploy, configure, and test video wall controllers for seamless integration with AV systems.
  • Integrate digital signage systems (BrightSign, OptiSigns, Philips CMND, Visix) with basic HTML / CSS / Java content formatting.
  • Deploy and configure conferencing solutions (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco WebEx) and room scheduling panels (Atlona, Yealink, Visix).

Networking & AV-over-IP

  • Set up and troubleshoot AV-over-IP solutions, including HDMI extenders, AV baluns, MoIP receivers, transmitters, controllers, and Bluetooth audio devices.
  • Configure managed switches for multicast, VLANs, IGMP snooping, and Dante.
  • Coordinate with client IT staff to ensure seamless device integration.

Rack Build & Cabling

  • Build and wire AV equipment racks following company standards for termination, labeling, and cable management.
  • Pull, terminate, and test Cat6/6A, coax, and fiber cabling; utilize shielded cabling when applicable.
  • Ensure proper safety, grounding, and structured cabling compliance.

Drawings, Documentation & Specs

  • Read and follow blueprints, AutoCAD, Visio drawings, RFPs, and consultant specifications (mounting heights, rack elevations, wiring diagrams).
  • Create accurate as-built documentation and update system drawings during and after installation.
  • Produce system diagrams, device lists, and configuration notes for client handoff and future service.

Field Leadership & Customer Interaction

  • Lead field crews, delegate tasks, and mentor junior technicians.
  • Collaborate with project managers, sales staff, and account managers to align scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Adapt to field conditions with minimal direction and complete projects efficiently.
  • Train end users on completed systems and conduct professional handoffs.
  • Maintain composure and problem-solving ability under pressure in mission-critical environments.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in commercial AV integration (enterprise / municipal / institutional projects).
  • Hands-on Q-SYS experience (Level I / II preferred).
  • Strong DSP configuration & troubleshooting skills (JBL, BSS, ClearOne, Biamp, Bose).
  • Proven experience installing LCD video walls, DVLED walls, and commercial displays.
  • Knowledge of video wall controllers and AV-over-IP or MoIP systems.
  • Familiarity with digital signage platforms (BrightSign, OptiSigns, Philips CMND, Visix).
  • Basic HTML / CSS / Java knowledge for digital signage content formatting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco WebEx conferencing, and room scheduling systems (Atlona, Yealink, Visix).
  • Ability to read blueprints, AutoCAD drawings, RFPs, and consultant specifications.
  • Flexible, self-reliant, detail-oriented, and adaptable in the field.
  • Calm under pressure - capable of working in live, public, or mission-critical settings.
  • Comfortable with physical work: mounting displays, lifting equipment, operating lifts, and running cable.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to travel locally (Metro Detroit + occasional regional).

  • AVIXA ANP (Audiovisual Network Professional)
  • Q-SYS Level I / II Certification
  • Dante Certification (Levels 1-3)
  • Crestron / AMX / NetLinx / Extron certifications
  • ClearOne, Biamp, Atlona, BrightSign, ViewZ, and other manufacturer training
  • Experience in museum displays, control rooms, or other mission-critical environments
