Position Summary

The Accounts Payable Specialist maintains accurate financial records, processes invoices, and ensures timely, compliant payments in accordance with organizational policies and GAAP. This role collaborates with internal teams and vendors, leverages accounting systems to support efficient operations, and upholds HIAS’ commitment to its’ mission and values.

The salary range for this position is $65,000-74,000.00.

Essential Functions

  • Manages financial transactional activity for accounts payable, ensuring that payables are processed and recorded both timely and accurately in accordance with organization policies and GAAP.
  • Ensure that payments are supported by proper approval and processed in timely manner.
  • Process payments in bank and make sure bills/reports are closed (marked as paid) in accounting system.
  • Process country offices fund transfer and record the transactions in accounting system.
  • Create new vendor in accounting system and update vendor information.
  • Review, post and process monthly invoices and grantee expenses from affiliates and POs for affiliates.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheet account as assigned.
  • Maintains and assists in the development of policies and procedures for accounts payable processes.
  • Reviews designation of 1099 consultants and verifies supporting information is available.
  • Processes the Search and Debarment of new vendors.
  • Maintains the vendor file.
  • Assists on special projects as assigned.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of process improvements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or related field required. Experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with experience in accounts payable.
  • Knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results in a timely manner.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
