Position Summary

The HS Research Tech 2 will work independently and as part of a research team conducting research in collaboration with the UNM METALS Superfund Center, the Center for Metals in Biology and Medicine and the New Mexico Integrative Science Program Incorporating Research in Environmental Sciences. The research will be focused on investigating the inflammatory effects of the real-world exposures to microplastics and the associated toxicants (e.g. plasticizers, metals) on chronic diseases. A strong background in biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology is highly encouraged. Tasks include in vitro and cell culture experiments, in vivo work with animal models, data interpretation, RNA isolation, qPCR, protein assays and quantification, and immunocytochemistry-based assays. Research contributions through this important work has the potential to produce high quality science that can result in peer-reviewed publications and grants.

Conditions of Employment

  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Biology or a related field
  • Experience with research methodologies, experimental design, statistical analysis, literature reviews, and data interpretation.
