Responsible for providing advanced installation, maintenance, and administration of database systems. Manages DBA portion of medium IS projects (less than $500,000) in support of business requirements. Supports senior level staff in ensuring that departmental procedures, policies, and standards are followed by all staff members. Continually enhances departmental knowledge and skills. Essential Functions
- Implements and contributes to the production of disaster recovery documents, tests plans and techniques for maintaining business continuity.
- Troubleshoots and documents complex or highly visible application performance issues. Conducts root cause analysis of failed systems and communicates findings to senior level staff.
- Performs, evaluates, and documents technology evaluations and installations.
- Serves as DBA lead on medium IS projects (total project budget less than $500,000) and participates on multi functional project teams as required to support business requirements. Develops and administers detailed formal project plans, including financial analysis/ROI, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocations.
- Creates technical drawings that illustrate abstract technical concepts, architectures, infrastructures, and strategies.
- Implements and maintains departmental policies, standards and procedures.
- Installs, configures, and provides ongoing administrative and technical support for DB systems.
- Provides on-call and after-hours scheduled support on a rotational basis to fulfill production and project needs.
- Reviews system resource utilization for current projects, estimates future impacts/needs, and communicates results to senior level staff.
- Implements and maintains monitoring tools to analyze and optimize DB systems. Works with various IS departments and/or vendors to determine and analyze DB requirements and to review and promotes DB changes (including schema, data and security).
- Solicits and provides feedback, coaching, mentoring, and guidance of departmental procedures, policies, standards, and best practices to/from DBA management and team members. Partners with senior level staff to develop curriculum and conduct training for new and less experienced team members.
- Continually enhances knowledge of SQL administration, engineering, and Kindred standards in order to achieve departmental success, professional growth, and to become proficient in new technologies and technical disciplines.
- Adapts and quickly assimilates new systems and network architectures as they are introduced within the company.
- Develops written articles concerning major projects, important technology directions and shifts, evolving industry trends, etc., for in-house publications.
- Prepares and conducts formal presentations for management concerning major projects and new technology directions.
- Presents creative and innovative ideas and approaches that will improve the performance of department, IS, as well as the business goals and strategies of the company.
- Established successful application utilizing advanced technical tools related to Database Administration, including: Microsoft Active Directory, OU, security, web, client/server and n-tier concepts and designs, and relational database designs (including normal forms and star schemas).
- Successful experience with T-SQL, set-based operations, and Microsoft Clustering.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with a variety of current database technologies.
- Applied understanding of hardware and SAN technologies.
- Ability to manage projects, ensuring that projects are clearly defined, systematically executed, and results oriented. Adherence to Project Management processes and standards within the organization are required.
- Previous experience with and/or ability to quickly learn systems and technologies specifically in use at Kindred.
- Approximate percent of time required to travel: 10
Education
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in an engineering or technology discipline
- MCSE and/or MCDBA preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in IS, with a minimum of 5 years current experience in Database Administration.
