Our Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) Internship Program gives you more than a glimpse behind-the-scenes of a working theme park – here you can get the chance to make a real impact on our business. As a USH intern, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with leaders, attend professional development workshops, and learn from industry experts – all while gaining real-world experience. Your internship begins with your key project assignment and concludes with a final presentation of your results to members of Senior Leadership. We are looking for a dedicated EHS intern to support safety initiatives during the 2026 Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) build. This intern will work closely with the EHS team throughout the design and build phases to identify and mitigate safety risks related to stage performances, costumes/puppets, and performer ergonomics.

The intern’s work will play a key role in enhancing performer safety by conducting risk assessments, documenting hazards, and driving corrective actions through our internal safety management system. This role offers hands-on experience in production safety while helping strengthen our safety practices.

Project Objectives

  • Conduct safety risk assessments for HHN elements, including costume and puppet design, platform safety, and prop ergonomics.
  • Support new design requirements for costumes and puppets.
  • Assist in performing costume ergonomic assessments.
  • Use our safety management system to catalog identified hazards.
  • Manage safety concerns using ATS or Concern Reporting, ensuring each item is tracked through completion.

Intern Role & Responsibilities

  • This role will support the project during its design and build phases by identifying and documenting potential safety hazards.
  • Analyze past incidents and safety concerns to identify patterns and proactively reduce future risks.
  • Record all identified hazards in the Concern Report tracking system.
  • Verify safety concerns are entered into the ATS or Concern Reporting tool, assigned to the appropriate party, and monitored through resolution.
  • Collaborate with the Safety team and Entertainment teams to recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Present findings in a final report and team presentation.

Learning & Development for the Intern

  • Practical experience in hazard tracking, mitigation, and safety oversight during the building/planning phase of HHN.
  • Training in the use of our company safety management system (JHA’s, ATS, and Concern Reporting platform).
  • Mentorship from seasoned professionals in the EHS department.
  • Skill development in hazard identification, stakeholder communication, and action tracking.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be actively pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate degree at an accredited institution, or must be a recent graduate (internship within six months of graduation date) in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Current class standing of Sophomore or above.
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, California.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, & holidays.
  • Must be willing to submit a background check investigation. An official educational transcript may be required upon request.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.

Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete an I-9 form within 3 days of hire.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Rising Junior, rising Senior, or recent graduate preferred.
  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above. Specific departments may require a higher GPA.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to self-start and streamline.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with professional communication at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience working with data management systems.
  • Prior safety-related work experience.

Additional Requirements:

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Compensation: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
