Paraprofessional at Residing Hope

This position will be in direct supervision of the learning lab for residents who attend school virtually at our Enterprise campus. This individual will partner with the Education and Residential departments to ensure each youth is maintaining adequate progress and appropriate behaviors during their learning lab time.

- Associate’s Degree in Education or related field of study and one year experience in a setting serving at risk youth or in an academic setting preferred; or any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills to successfully perform in this role.
- Ability to promote enhanced academic success through behavior management and strategic intervention.
- Ability to establish a professional rapport with students, staff and co-workers that is rooted in respect.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth and adults with the ability to coach them in achieving their academic and behavioral goals.
- High personal values and standards that serve as model for youth.
- Effective crisis intervention skills; particularly the ability to apply social emotional learning principles.
- Excellent problem solving skills, including the ability to make quick decisions when necessary.
- Strong analytical and creative thinking skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity to our target population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
- Manage the online classroom learning environment through behavioral management, facilitating computer instruction for students, and ongoing assessment and intervention prior to formal disciplinary action being implemented (in and out of school suspensions).
- Encourage the use of innovative learning methods, particularly those emphasizing social emotional skills.
- Participate in school meetings and in-service activities.
- Conduct initial and post assessments for new and departing students.
- Facilitate new student orientation for new cottage students.
- Conduct and record safety drills.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Perform all other job duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
- Promote the high standards and expectations for all students (academic performance and behavior).
- Support the implementation of RULER and SEL skills across the academic program, including retrains as necessary.
