Job Description Summary
The Lead Facilities Technician is responsible for performing general building maintenance work and performing routine preventative maintenance throughout College facilities. The Lead Facilities Technician is responsible for monitoring and keeping the College campus and facilities clean, orderly, and in good presentable condition. The Lead Facilities Technician will provide operational, building maintenance, housekeeping, grounds and basic support for College events, classes, and College community needs. The Lead Facilities Technician will perform light carpentry work and painting work. The Lead Facilities Technician will provide support and supervision for moves and setups for events. This position will be required to work at any of the College’s campuses as needed or as assigned.
The Lead Facilities Technician is a working supervisor position and will assist with organizing the daily work orders and assigning duties to the subordinate Facilities Technicians assigned to the Heritage Campus and Windward Campus or as assigned by the Associate Director of Building Maintenance and/or Director of Facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) years of experience in facilities maintenance or grounds maintenance service.
Valid Driver License with ability to obtain a Texas Driver License within 90 days of hire and be insurable by Del Mar College.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in facilities maintenance, grounds keeping, and housekeeping services.
Knowledge of occupational hazards, fire and safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of electrical power tools, small hand tools, and cleaning equipment.
Knowledge of the use of carpentry power tools and hand tools.
Knowledge of the use of painting equipment, tools, and paint products.
Knowledge of the use of powered lawn equipment and tools.
Knowledge of the use of custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning products.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including customer service orientation and ability to interact with a wide variety of diverse individuals.
Ability to use computers and software to access data, generate reports and Excel spreadsheets, generate power point presentations, maintain records, and communicate with other staff.
Ability to read and take written or oral instructions.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, and other related technical documents.
Ability to plan, schedule, direct and coordinate the work of subordinates in a maintenance environment.
Ability to supervise subordinate staff in a congenial manner to work as an effective team.
Ability to cooperate as a team player in a diverse working environment.
Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting up to 50 pounds, and crawling, and work outdoors during inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications
Six (6) years of experience in commercial facility/building maintenance with three (3) years of supervisory experience of building or general maintenance workers.
Experience working in a maintenance/building trade such as general building maintenance, carpentry, and/or painting.
Experience with planning and implementing moves and setups for special events.
Proficient in the use of computers and computer software to include the use of e-mail, word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint.
Proficient in the use of the internet to access the work order system data, maintain on-line records, and generate reports.

Observe the appearance and conditions of Heritage Campus and Windward Campus premises daily; report any items requiring corrective action, safety hazards, or non-performance of contractor services to the Physical Facilities Office.
Job Duty
Respond to building service calls which may involve emergency spills and plumbing backups.
Set-up and/or tear-down tables, chairs, or other furnishings for meetings, events, or special functions.
Monitor restrooms to maintain cleanliness and to keep properly stocked.
Monitor elevators, hallways, stairwells, and entryways to keep them cleaned.
Monitor buildings and grounds and pick-up and/or remove trash and debris; dispose of trash and debris in approved receptacles.
Operate grounds equipment to assist Grounds Crew when needed or as directed.
Job Duty
Determine, acquire, and prepare equipment and supplies to perform assigned tasks; identify and report non-operational dispensers/equipment as needed.
Power wash sidewalks, building exteriors and entry ways to ensure cleanliness and remove foreign matter; maintain power washing equipment.
Set-up and take down promotional banners, signs, and posters from campus locations.
Assist with closing campus during emergency situations.
Job Duty
Perform building maintenance work, including but not limited to, carpentry, repairing walls and ceilings, painting, replacing door locks and hardware.
Carpentry work including the building/repair of walls, doors and hardware, windows, shelves, cabinets and classroom furniture.
Installing gypsum board, taping, floating, and painting.
Installing/replacing VCT floor tile, ceramic floor tile, carpet and cove base.
Installing/replacing/repairing suspended ceiling grid and ceiling tiles.
Replacing fluorescent lamps and light bulbs.
Ensure that the Facilities Technicians are handling/storing the fluorescent lamps properly.
Remove debris from roofs and drains.
Perform minor roof repairs.
