The Field Service Manager leads a team of Automation Technicians responsible for the commissioning, maintenance and support of municipal control systems. Typical systems include process instrumentation, control panels, motor controls, PLCs, industrial networking, IT infrastructure, and telemetry.

The Field Service Manager leads a team of Automation Technicians responsible for the commissioning, maintenance and support of municipal control systems. Typical systems include process instrumentation, control panels, motor controls, PLCs, industrial networking, IT infrastructure, and telemetry.
What Your Day-to-day Will Look Like
- Reports to Automation Department Manager for scheduling, workload, and quality oversight.
- Supervise, mentor, and schedule staff to maintain balanced workloads and ensure safety compliance.
- Support staff development through feedback and performance reviews.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for technical or personnel issues.
- Conduct internal Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and coordinate field commissioning readiness.
- Supervise or perform I/O checkout and post-commissioning review.
- Provide on-site support for instrumentation and PLC-based process control, system configuration, installation, and process startup as needed.
- Manage annual control panel maintenance for preferred clients.
- Manage the automation service board, prioritizing and assigning service tasks to ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain accurate client documentation and shared records (photos, applications, markups, reports).
- Prepare quotes and proposals for support work and small projects for existing clients.
- Identify and escalate new opportunities to the Business Development Manager.
- Participate in hiring activities, including resume reviews and interviews.
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical or controls engineering, including installation, and startup.
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs and OITs.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Computer literacy and digital communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, clients, engineers, and contractors.
- Must provide personal transportation for travel to client and office locations (mileage reimbursable).
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Prior supervisory or project management experience.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field.
