Job Purpose
The Interconnection and Permitting Specialist supports commercial and industrial (C&I) solar development projects by managing utility interconnection applications and securing all required permits. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, coordinates with utilities and permitting authorities, and tracks timelines to keep projects on schedule. The specialist translates technical requirements into clear documentation, facilitates approvals, and helps mitigate risks related to grid connection and regulatory processes, enabling smooth project execution from design through construction.

Job Purpose
The Interconnection and Permitting Specialist supports commercial and industrial (C&I) solar development projects by managing utility interconnection applications and securing all required permits. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, coordinates with utilities and permitting authorities, and tracks timelines to keep projects on schedule. The specialist translates technical requirements into clear documentation, facilitates approvals, and helps mitigate risks related to grid connection and regulatory processes, enabling smooth project execution from design through construction.
Responsibilities
- Manage utility interconnection applications: Prepare, submit, and track applications with utilities to secure approvals for solar projects.
- Coordinate with permitting authorities: Work directly with local, state, and federal agencies to obtain building, electrical, and environmental permits.
- Support project development teams: Provide guidance on interconnection timelines, permitting risks, and regulatory constraints during project planning.
- Maintain documentation: Organize and update records of permits, approvals, and correspondence with utilities and agencies in Smartsheets, Procore, and SharePoint.
- Facilitate stakeholder communication: Act as the liaison between engineering, construction, utilities, and permitting bodies to resolve issues quickly.
- Track schedules and deadlines: Monitor interconnection and permit milestones to keep projects on track and escalate delays when needed.
- 2+ years of experience in commercial solar or residential solar.
- Proven experience of working with Authority Having Jurisdictions (AHJ) and submitting permitting plan sets.
- Ability to manage active permits and be able to communicate deadlines to project management.
- Ability to interpret design drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to package interconnection submittals and manage utility applications and correspondence to attain purchase power agreements and interconnection agreements.
- Ability to assist with project closeout documents (Permission to Operate)
- Ability to operate and manage records in multiple systems (Procore, Smartsheets, and SharePoint)
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Experience with C&I solar projects in CA
- Experience in submitting permits and/or managing utility applications
- Demonstrates personal accountability and strong integrity
- Comfortable with a work environment that is fast paced and adapts to changes quickly
- Capable of making informed decisions quickly and effectively
- Passionate and enthusiastic about renewable energy
- Ability to work within a team with a positive, can-do attitude
- Dana Point, CA or Ontario, CA - Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite
