As an Art Teacher at The Pinnacle School, you will design and deliver adaptive art instruction that nurtures creativity, communication, and skill development for students with autism and related special needs. You’ll create an inclusive classroom environment, modify lessons as needed, and collaborate closely with the educational team to support each student’s individual growth and success. In this role, you will model behaviors that reflect our mission to educate the whole child through a multidisciplinary approach that meets each learner’s unique needs.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, education, literature or related field
  • Valid Connecticut state endorsement (042): Art, PK-12 or eligibility for certification in the state of Connecticut
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience teaching special education student populations with language-based learning differences
  • Familiar with the IEP process and collection of progress monitoring data
  • Create and maintain an orderly and aesthetic learning environment that accounts for students social, emotional, and executive functioning need
  • Commitment to help children of all abilities reach their full potential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, enthusiastic style to fit with our small-team environment

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver adaptive art instruction using research-based practices, modify lessons to meet diverse student needs, and create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and accurate documentation of student progress and skill development.
  • Differentiate instruction and implement behavior supports as needed to ensure meaningful and safe participation for all students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, follow school-wide expectations, contribute to non-instructional activities, and communicate effectively with staff and families.
  • Integrate technology into instruction, supervise students across various school settings, and perform other duties as assigned to support school and program success.
