Role Description

As a Platform Software Engineer for Hammerhead ORCA (Orchestrated RL Control Agents), you will play a critical role in building the backbone of our intelligent orchestration system. Reporting to the CTO, you will design and implement the distributed infrastructure that enables our Reinforcement Learning (RL) Supervisor and agents (Compute, Power, and Cooling) to interact with real-world data center assets in real-time. You will work directly on the platform that connects GPUs, DCIM systems, and utility meters, ensuring our "power-aware" peak management system operates with high reliability and low latency. This is a high-impact role for a builder ready to scale a system that actively manages gigawatts of mission-critical power.

Key Responsibilities

  • ORCA Platform Development: Architect and build the distributed runtime environment that hosts our Orchestrated RL Control Agents, ensuring seamless communication between the RL Supervisor and distributed agents across multi-region data centers
  • Infrastructure Integration: Develop robust connectors and drivers to interface with diverse hardware and protocols, including Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems, utility meters, cooling infrastructure, and GPU clusters.
  • Real-Time Control Systems: Engineer low-latency data pipelines that ingest telemetry from racks and power infrastructure to support real-time routing guidance and control decisions.
  • Reliability & Scalability: Design fault-tolerant systems capable of handling critical control loops where failure is not an option; ensure the platform scales to manage portfolios of data centers globally.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with AI/RL researchers to productionize control algorithms, providing the software foundation they need to shift latency-tolerant workloads and optimize cooling efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Distributed Systems Expert: You have strong experience building and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems using languages such as Go, Python or Rust.
  • Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in cloud infrastructure, IoT, or industrial control systems.
  • Infrastructure Fluency: You are familiar with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and have exposure to data center concepts (networking, power systems, or hardware integration).
  • Data & API Proficiency: Experience designing APIs and data pipelines for real-time streaming data (e.g., gRPC, Kafka, MQTT).
  • Startup Mentality: You are "scrappy" and resourceful, comfortable debugging a protocol issue in the morning and architecting a multi-region deployment strategy in the afternoon.
  • Bonus Points: Experience with Reinforcement Learning (RL) productionization or energy sector protocols (OpenADR, Modbus, etc.).

What we offer

  • Competitive salary, bonus, 401(k) plan and equity in a rapidly growing startup
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Opportunity to apply the latest AI technologies working with an experienced team

Join our team to shape the foundation of tomorrow’s AI infrastructure
