Engineering Manager

Academic And Educational Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, technology OR equivalent AND 7+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years of management experience. Master of Science in Engineering or MBA preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Product engineering experience from design concept through production launch.
  • Proven ability to handle customer technical meetings
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork
  • System and component engineering experience.
  • Experience with product & manufacturing technologies.
  • Driveline product engineering experience preferred.
  • Familiar with NVH development at vehicle and component level.
  • Technical - Thorough understanding and ability to apply knowledge of powertrain engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive design, vehicle dynamics, and testing methodologies and procedures. Ability to read prints, understand GD&T, SPC, DVPR, familiarity with product engineering documentation, and understanding of inspection methods and reports
  • Communication - Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers. Ability to present formal technical reviews to customers. Ability to clearly communicate assignments and coaching to subordinates.
  • Analytical - Demonstrate attention to detail and diligently work to understand and anticipate engineering requirements before problems arise. Ability to work with mathematical concepts of probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to work with concepts related to mechanical engineering FEA, gear design, machine design and 3-D CAD. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Problem Solving - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the resource allocation, manage the priorities, and provide summarize design and engineering status reports in order to support customer requirements, program managers work requirements with respect to allocations, innovations, and customer requirements.
  • Create project plans to meet the Product Development Systems requirements. Manage the reporting of projects oversee other managed projects, all to fulfill statement of requirements.
  • Create and manage budgets for required equipment, software, supplies, personnel, and department development.
  • Create, oversee, organize, and control quality of design documentation and engineering disciplines including, but not limited to, 3D models of components and assemblies, 2D drawings, specifications, reports, robustness and reliability documentation, DVP&Rs, DFMEAs, and technical presentations.
  • Oversee, organize, and assure quality for designs, analysis models and prints through established design reviews.
  • Support and establish training in methodology, software, standards, design, and in components and their assemblies.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and supplier contact both internally and externally.
  • Work new business pursuit and product quotes, various reports, layouts, and studies.
  • Manage training plans for engineering employees, as well as provide guidance for professional growth and improvement.
  • Support in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the Documented Quality and Environmental Systems.
  • Manage and direct design development testing, design/production validation plans and testing analysis.
  • Lead Simultaneous Product/Manufacturing Engineering teams to develop low cost/investment design and processes.
  • Support manufacturing plant with design actions to improve FTT.
  • Utilize problem solving methods and disciplines such as 8-D and 6-Panel methods.
  • Identify and apply suitable team dynamics, interpersonal relationship and leadership techniques.
