Crime and Intelligence Analyst at City of Raleigh Municipal Government
This role involves non-sworn analytical work in the assimilation and comparison of trends in reported crimes in the City as a Crime Analyst assigned to the Detective Division. Work requires the collection, analysis, and dissemination of sensitive information. Work requires development and maintenance of multiple databases and their application in a computer environment. Work includes the retrieval and analysis of crime data; the preparation of informational reports for various user groups; and providing technical assistance for special projects.
The individual in this role must be able to work rotating shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Tracks citywide criminal trends and patterns. Produces hot sheets and reports associated with the crime pattern
- Prepares weekly crime numbers reports and specialized maps
- Monitors criminal activity, performs analysis, and prepares reports utilizing crime data
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of the police reporting system; data entry, storage, and retrieval techniques; uniform crime reporting procedures; and computer skills
- Demonstrates a high level of independent thinking, completes most tasks with limited supervision, and organizes and participates in many projects at the same time
- Provides maps and statistical information for the Detective Division and other divisions as needed
- Responds punctually to request for assistance from departmental members, City employees, the media, and the public
- Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with members of the department, the City departments, and the public
- Prepares written correspondence and statistical reports that are accurate, clear, concise, and completed on time
- Processes and files warrants, maintains quality control for wanted persons per DCI regulations, and performs validation of all NCIC wanted persons entered on behalf of the Department
- Safely operate city vehicles, as needed, for various administrative tasks
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field; 1 to 3 years' experience in statistical analysis, trend analysis, intelligence information analysis/evaluation, or related work
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licenses or Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Certified Crime Analyst
