Contract type: Full time
Job Description

The Director of Materials & Planning is responsible for building and executing an enterprise-wide materials and planning strategy that enables operational stability, customer service excellence, and working capital optimization. This role leads both the transformation and daily execution of the planning and material flow systems across all eight U.S. manufacturing plants — integrating master scheduling, production planning, SIOP, inventory management, and logistics alignment into a cohesive operating rhythm. The leader will drive the standardization of planning processes, ensure accurate demand-to-supply alignment, and deliver measurable improvements in service, inventory turns, and schedule adherence — while developing a disciplined planning culture that supports the OHD Lean Operating System.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & SIOP Leadership

  • Design, deploy, and govern the enterprise Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process to balance demand, supply, and capacity.
  • Integrate financial, commercial, and operational inputs into a unified plan that drives execution and accountability.
  • Partner with Commercial and Finance teams to translate demand signals into executable production plans.

Materials Management & Inventory Optimization

  • Standardize materials management processes across all plants, including replenishment, min/max controls, and Kanban systems.
  • Drive measurable improvement in inventory turns, excess reduction, and material availability.
  • Oversee the design and execution of enterprise material flow strategies — from suppliers through plants to distribution centers.
  • Optimize working capital while maintaining service reliability.

Production Planning & Master Scheduling

  • Develop and deploy standard planning tools and processes for finite scheduling, line balancing, and constraint management.
  • Ensure that all plants operate from synchronized master production schedules tied to demand and capacity.
  • Drive adherence to production schedules, on-time delivery, and alignment with customer requirements, System Integration & Transformation
  • Partner with IT, Supply Chain, and Operations to implement system improvements in ERP/MRP planning accuracy, master data integrity, and production reporting.
  • Lead transformation initiatives to standardize planning data, dashboards, and decision cadence across all manufacturing sites.
  • Serve as the enterprise owner for planning standards within the OHD Lean Operating System framework.
  • Leadership & Organizational Development
  • Build and mentor a high-performing network of Materials and Planning leaders across all plants.
  • Develop clear roles, responsibilities, and succession plans for site-level materials teams.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, proactive communication, and cross-functional alignment between operations, supply chain, and sales.

Leadership Expectations

  • Acts as both strategic architect and tactical leader, balancing transformation with flawless execution.
  • Operates through data, visibility, and disciplined problem solving — not firefighting.
  • Builds strong cross-functional partnerships with Sales, Finance, Engineering, and Operations to ensure business-wide synchronization.
  • Models Lean leadership by integrating planning stability, standard work, and visual management into daily operations.
  • Communicates with clarity and influence at all levels — from operators to executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in materials, planning, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven success leading multi-site SIOP, planning, or inventory optimization initiatives.
  • Strong ERP/MRP systems with knowledge and experience implementing or optimizing enterprise planning systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform planning culture from reactive to proactive through systems, KPIs, and discipline.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Experience in building products or industrial manufacturing preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% across U.S. manufacturing sites.
