- Communicates with surgery staff about special needs for patients with latex allergies and any special needs and/or requests from patients.
- Communicates with Case Management/Social work staff any special care needs or issues with discharge planning, such as transportation, or inability to afford medications.
- Communicates with Administrative Coordinators regarding special equipment needs or issues with interpretative services.
- Provides information on medications to take and/or hold prior to surgery.
- Provides arrival times.
- Provides information relevant to the procedure being done.
- Answers any questions, patients, family, and/or authorized care takers have.
- Reassures patients, family and/or authorized care takers when discussing scheduled procedure.
- Ensures patient, family, and/or authorized care taker understands all education provided.

Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- 5-7 years current med-surg experience.
- Discharge Planning and Utilization Review experience preferred.
- Maintains clinical competency as required for the position including but not limited to: Age specific competencies relative to patient's growth and development needs, annual skill competency verification.
- Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license to work, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Preferred: core certification related to area of specialty from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.
- Skilled in promoting positive relations when interacting with patients or other customers.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing applications and pre-admission and pre-operative care.
