THE ROLE

We are looking for a creative, technical, and driven Head Route Setter to lead our setting program. You aren’t just a setter; you are the curator of our members’ experience.

Your canvas is slab to overhang. Your goal is to maximize every inch of that terrain to create density, variety, and flow. You will lead the setting team, manage the rotation schedule, and ensure that Blocker Boulders remains the premier destination for high-quality movement.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the Vision: Create and maintain a diverse rotation of boulders that inspires our community.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the route setting team. Foster an environment of co-creation, feedback, and professional development.
• Operations & Safety: Take ownership of the wall maintenance. Ensure loose holds are fixed immediately, equipment is maintained, and the setting area is safe.
• Community Engagement: Actively engage with members to understand their needs. Lead route setting clinics and workshops to educate our community.
• Forerunning: Forerun routes up to V8 to ensure quality and consistency across the gym.
• Maintenance: Oversee the stripping, washing, and organization of holds and volumes.
• Events: Collaborate on setting for competitions, leagues, and special community events.
  
  

Who You Are

• A Movement Specialist: You understand the nuances of bouldering. You know how to force a movement without breaking a climber.
• A Team Player: You thrive in a collaborative environment. You can give direction, but you can also take feedback.
• Detail Oriented: You care about aesthetics (tape, color matching, clean walls) just as much as the mechanics of the move.
• Safe & Professional: You adhere to strict safety standards and risk management practices.
• Flexible: You are willing to work occasional nights and weekends for competitions or resets.
  
  

Requirements

• Previous commercial route setting experience (Head Setter experience preferred).
• Ability to forerun at a V8 level.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work on ladders and use impact drivers/power tools safely.
• A passion for creating an inclusive environment for climbers of all heights and abilities.
